Walk 21 January 2013 : Vale de Lapa

Post by Geoff »

Meet in the carpark of the Carvoeiro Tennis Club at 1000, map is at:
http://www.tenniscarvoeiro.com/gallery/roadmap.html

Basically, driving out of CVO and before you get to the petrol station, turn left up the zigzag hill and then right at the top at the T junction. Drive past L'Orange restaurant on your right and Monte Santo development on your left. At the roundabout, follow signs and go straight over. The club is about 200 yards on the right....the floodlight towers are visible from some distance!

Walk will be through some lightly wooded areas and some cliff tops, with lovely views. Stout trainers or boots and walking poles are recommended : as are hats, sun cream and water.
The walk is largely flat, but there is a valley to cross and a longish upward climb towards the end.

Please note that we will be walking fairly near some high cliffs , perhaps 10-20 feet from edge at times. If this is a problem, there is often a more inland track to take. The valley looks quite steep, but there is a relatively gentle way down , as long as you have a reasonable head for heights!

No charge, of course.

Any queries , ring on 282 380015 before 0930.

All walks are at your own risk.

We will not be walking should the weather break and take a turn for the worse. But if it's only showery, bring something waterproof.

Hope to see friends old and new. It would be helpful to indicate if you are coming.

Just to say that some people have expressed some concern at the cliff paths.....I walked them today and they are all fine.

However, have found a new trail which avoids the cliff edges and also most of the steep incline/decline, so could offer this alternative. Still have lovely sea & landscapes.

Hope to see you there : please indicate if you can come.

We missed Ray Charsley , but welcomed Jenny and Claire, along with other retournees. Lovely walk, the rains held off just long enough for a bracing 2 hours.....we opted to bypass the main valley in the end, but the scree paths were safer than the earth ones!

Geoff et al.,
Anna and I would like to thank you Geoff, for the organisation of the walks in which we've participated during the past few weeks, and the whole group for the good company.
We're heading back to F / NL at the weekend so will not be participating further, but perhaps next winter, again?
Best regards,
Anna & Peter Dobson
