Walk from Gale Beach, Monday March 19th

Post by snowbirds »

Meet at 10:00 a.m.

Take the 125 towards Guia and when you get to the chicken roundabout (white statues of chickens) turn right and drive past two sets of traffic lights and then turn right following signs for Apolonia and Gale Beach. Keep going straight down past the turn off for Apolonia and at the next roundabout follow the sign to Gale Beach, drive to the end and park by the cafes/restaurants.

This is a flat walk which will take about 1 hr. 45 mins. We will walk west along the beach, then go up over the sand dunes and join the boardwalk along by the bird sanctuary, and work our way back across to Gale Beach where we have a choice of cafes.

Any questions, call Brian 282 351 674 or 965 528 842

The largest part of this walk was along the beach between Gale and Salgados's new boardwalk...and that certainly tests your calf muscles.
Probably not a walk that would become "Geoff certified"....not enough heart stopping climbs....but everybody that went, certainly enjoyed it.
Well led Penny!!
Alvor boardwalk next week???

Walk Alvor Monday, March 26th

Post by snowbirds »

Start time 10:00 a.m.

Meet at the east side of Alvor Harbour in the parking lot by the Fishermen's huts, near the Sports Centre. We will stroll the boardwalk and perhaps some of the beach (to enhance Bruce's calf muscles) and end up at a cafe.

Any questions call Brian at 282 351 674 or Mobile 965 528 842.

Sounds like a good walk.....we have done Gale eastwards, but not west to Salgados , so will check this out when we come next....see any Flamingoes? Any pictures? you presumably had to backtrack, or coud you make a circuit?

God Geoff!! Questions, question, questions!!!

You can park at the western end of the Paria Grande, where the new Salgados boardwalk is......but no bar.
There is a bar at the eastern end of the boardwalk. You could park there, and you could go west down the boardwalk to the end, then return east along the beach for as far as you wish towards Gale', before returning to bar and car park along the clifftop walk.
