Walk : Thursday 10 February, 2011, Silves Windmill

Post by Geoff »

Our favourite to start!
Meet at 1000 , outside the cemetery in Silves & walk up to the windmill & loop back via the beautiful countryside beyond. About 2 to 2.5 hours......we could always do the walk in reverse if you have done it before.

Directions: driving from CVO to Silves , go over the bridge & turn right. At the roundabout , turn left towards the town & the cemetery is about 100m on the right.

No charge , of course.

For a map of start point, see walk on 12 March 2009.

There are a couple of brief, steep sections. Wear walking boots or stout trainers : poles are a good idea.A raincoat might be an idea.

It would be helpful if you could indicate if you can come please. Hope to see you all there.

Any problems ( or bad weather) ring 282 380015, before 0915 on the day.

Unfortunately not, by me anyway, as we are only out for a short visit.

Julie Statham usually has walks on a wednesday , but at 5€ per person ( look in Algarve Resident) and the Algarve Hash House Harriers meet on a sunday afternoon in winter ( 5€ per person, but includes beer and supper!), contact 289 413 854 for details and mention " Just Geoff".

I will be having more in april & May.

Thanks Geoff, might look into the Sunday one, just thought it would be nice to walk with others, a bit daunting on your own, have had a few incidences of 'flashers' before

We are going to be staying in the Algarve for February and March so we will try to make this walk. It sounds like it could be quite enoyable...as long as it isn't raining!

Welcome to Silves!
Just in case, as a worker in the Tourism Sector in this city (information post and interpretation center), I take the opportunity, in case you don't know, to let you know that there are a few books about walks published by Algarve Tourism, including the one about the "Via Algarviana" (on sale on Algarve tourist offices) and one called "Tours", about walks in the municipality of Silves, published by the Silves Town Hall...

Have a nice time, hope the weather clears on that day!

Hi Miguel
We know the " Trails in the Algarve" book, see :
www.carvoeiro.com/info/walking
but will look out for the " Tours" booklet.
Does the new information bureau by the river sell it please?

Hi Geoff!
The book "Tours" is available only at the "Centro de Interpretação do Património Islâmico", in the Municipal square, under the Town Hall of Silves (also the Silves Tourist Information office) - open from monday to friday, from 9 to 5 pm. This book so far has been offered to visitors for promotional purposes, but it might be sold in the future.

Hi Geoff,

I've just booked to arrive in Carvoeiro next Wednesday so would like to join you on this walk. Sue couldn't make this trip so I will be on my own.

I look forward to seeing you next week.

Hello Geoff:

I don't know if you'll get this in time, but I've come down with a particularly nasty cold and won't be able to make your walk this am. If things are better on Monday, I will try to make that one, though.
