I just want to put a word in for this restaurant, formerly known as Xico Xe, on the corner adjacent to Lanterna Velha.
we were walking the hill looking for inspiration last night, as we passed it I said that I'd only eaten there once, it was my first meal in Carvoeiro, circa 1984 & I hadn't been in there since!
so we said we'd go in, and were very pleased we did. somebody's renting it, hence the name change; nice furniture & appearance looking over the hill, a lovely array of friendly staff and the usual hill menu although to be fair the fish in the fridge looked excellent and a wide choice was offered,
4 of us had 4 different things, steak, sardines, dourada & pork; all reported excellent choices; I had the potugese steak, served in the nice ceramic pottery style dish, delicious steak with presunto on top, & I asked for a fried egg to crown it, delicious in the garlic gravy,
we got there at 7.15 and were one of the first, by the time we left it was packed so the word is already out there, & it certainly won't be another 30 years before we go back again! delicious.

Strange - that was the first place we ever ate in in cvo but circa 2002. Went back the following week which by then was into July and found prices had gone up so never went back. Perhaps it deserves another try!
