Restaurant Recommendations

Post by Ari Gold »

Hi,

first time poster so go easy...
we make it over to the CVO area at least once a year, staying at Quinta do Rosal, the restaurants are so good, reasonably priced and enjoyable around there that we generally dont try new ones, our favourites in the area are O'Litoral & O'Algar in Benagil, Porches Vehlo, Chicken George, Brassarie Marinha & L'Orange (Captains dinner table used be our favourite spot)

from reading on here Ele & Ela is highly recommended, can anyone recommend any others? my ideal restaurant is down a country lane, plastic tables and chairs, with the locals eating there, great food nothing fancy.

thanks,

Ari.

hi Ari,

you're in a great spot & you eat at some lovely restaurants, Brasserie Marinha & L'Orange are far from plastic chairs, as is Ele & Ela, but if you like those you'll like Ele & Ela too.
On the coast road from you to Carvoeiro you'll pass Julio's at the Vale do Milho entrance, opposite Centainnes beach, a lovely restaurant; and further round the corner from that you'll find Mona Lisa, nice Italian food, homemade pizzas by a great chef.
Plastic table lunches are nice, Tia Theresa on the 125 shortly before Aqualand is good.

Well spotted. I think I have moved Chicken George back to its correct location now.
Hopefully someone else can confirm.

Is it confusing (or even necessary) to have 'restaurant' prefixing some of the locations? I think just the name, U Nuno, would suffice.

Sandy, for what its worth, you are allowed to add restaurants yourself :D
For explanation, read here

But see subsequent comments too.
I agree that the "restaurant" prefix should be omitted when adding names.

Let's take it out, I just put it in because that is how they advertise themselves on the signs outside the restaurant.

Will you do it or do you want me to.

just back from a great 10 days, here's my thoughts on the places we ate

O'lheo Porches - excellent food, pricier and upmarket, blankets were provided for the ladies who were getting cold as it was a chilly evening - nice touch.
Brassarie Marinha - excellent everytime we go there, never disappoints but is pricey
O'Algor - beautiful setting, lovely restaurant, seafood was great, i had the portuguese steak which was disappointing, poor cut of meat was grizzly., not a great selection of starters.
Casa Lamy - excellent restuarant, our first visit and best food we had on holiday (didnt get offered a Port on the house though when we were finishing up)
Chicken Georges - Chicken & Chips for 2, salad, wine & water all for €23, great stuff
Ele & Ela - didnt live up to the hype for me, too european in style whereas i prefer simple local dishes without the sauces, would rate O'lheo Porches & Brassarie Marinha ahead of Ele & Ela.
O'Litoral - excellent food, had the Portuguese steak here and it was top class, lovely starters of prawns, mushrooms and clams (although we didnt intend on ordering starters we found the owner kinda told us we should have them) fish of the day was also excellent, nice touch at the end as the owner plonked a bottle of port on the table for the 4 of us to enjoy.
Rui Marisqueira (Silves) - lovely seafood here, €6.50 for the house Vino Verde, would highly recommend.

the restaurants all seemed a lot quieter than the last few summers we've visited.

Ari
completely agree with all your comments apart from Chicken George. A great alternative is 'the Ritz' aka Escondinha in Quinta Paraiso. Starters, main, wine, water, coffee and Brandy ( twice!) for 2 was 22 euro and delicious. :D
