Fawlty Towers in Carvoeiro
Last night I had the unfortunate experience to visit the new Roma which could only be described as Fawlty Towers Does CVO.
It all started quite well, we booked in advance for 5 of us to have dinner. We arrived on time and were greeted by a waiter who preceded to tell us that he was short of staff but please be patient and he would take our order shortly. We had been sitting down for about 3 to 4 minuets when he brought us the couvert which was a very nice assortment of smoked salmon and ham, we all commented that that was quick and we settled in to have a nice meal.
This is where it all went wrong Fawlty style. 35 minuets later we ordered the wine and we were brought the menu only to be told that the steaks had all gone as he was having trouble with his suppler. Two of us decided to have the veal milanese only to be told all gone, now with a small menu that did not leave a lot.
Anyway we ordered our meal and after a lot of compromise to what we wanted, we waited to be fed. The plates were cold as was the food on them, the excuse was that the plate warmer was broken. OK can we have another bottle of wine, sorry we have run out of that one ( Planalto ) what do you recommend, this one sir it is the same and if you don't like it we will exchange it. After three of us had tasted it and decided that it was off, the waiter said I thought so, it did not smell right.
We were not offered any incentive to return to the restaurant by way of reduction in the bill or a discount.
I can now say that I have had a bad meal in CVO.
My advice is that if you were thinking of going to this restaurant think twice about it.
