[Slip Digby]

3 jotas - shame they had the fire. I thought they just closed for low season. Best garlic king prawn starter I had in the whole fortnight. Didn't cook fillet steak or clams well at all though. both overdone.

lantern - went here twice, liked the fish soup - a more oily bouillobaise affair than a lot of the sweet potato/pepper based ones i had. tons of fish, but pasta too. potatoes with main courses where horrible but the meat and fish were good. very friendly staff.

oasis - without doubt the best ribs in town, lamb shank wasn't too bad either- sauce a bit salty tho. don't get the slagging of their house wine. what do you expect for those prices. i had half a carafe of red one night, half a white another. by far the most offensive wine i tried. my hotel resstaurant one was much worse,

casa do pao - fantastic astmosphere in the courtyard. felt a bit sorry for the parrot being so close to all the smoke from the grill. lovely flambe prawns.

i'd write more but i don't remember the names of half of them. the best anonymous one was near happys just before the stone steak house, at the end on the left, superb fresh fish cooked to the point on our last night. pity they were so quiet and in a rush to shut up.

there's one on the right too, cafe bombard something like that - lovely lunch - bit of grilled fish dusted with big grains of sea salt, very tasty potatoes and a bit of salad for under £6, bargain. evening meal was dissapointing.

might add a few more when I've sobered up a bit from te duty free absolut, not cheaper at all in the airport. 75cl in soares for just under eleven euros and a classy conversation with the woman who works there, too.

The anonymous one sounds like Maximes, has light green tablecloths and lots of decorations inside??? great place if it was, we love eating there, Christmas time is the best as they always decorate the whole restaurant and it looks so festive apart from the great food.

Hi Slip Digby..
agree about Casa do Pao..Ive had some nice meals there, inside and in the courtyard.
Had a superb evening inside once, a 'Fado' night. 4 singers, all different style..I had a drink with one singer, an old boy from Coimbra (they live in Lagoa now) and his wife..
if I remember rightly I had a lovely salmon fillet, made with lemon and butter, that evening
They made me very welcome.
