o gale

Post by Jim Mckeon »

:( :( I must agree with previous reports that this place has really gone down hill. I went there last week and when I ordered the best dish, and the most expensive the menu Monk fish, and King prawns with rice. What turned up was a revolting mess of cheap fish with great big lumps of processed crabsticks in it. I have never had such a bad meal in the town before. My sons spaghetti was so hard you could use it as nails.

When I complained the male waiter hid behind feamale one and she suddenly could not speak english any more, be warned

If you mean A-Gale'.........you need to speak to Carla , the owner. We were in there recently, and it seemed back to its best.

To be honest, the food should be good enough that a customer should not have to speak to anyone! I think it is a bit hit and miss there at the moment which is a great shame.

you´re right - I don´t know anyway why people are bothered so much about Galé or which restaurant ever in and near Rua do Farol - it´s all the same, nothing special about. you get a piece of meat or fish, some chips, 3 carrots ... in Galé, in Jota Lita - what is so special about Galé? The douradas or robalos are not from the sea, like nearly everywhere in Carvoeiro ...

Dear "a galé" client...I´m so sorry that you did not like,( in the end of your meal), your mounkfish and prawms, I was in the restaurant the same day as you, and tree more after, and I think you forgot to tell some things that are also important...like for ex. Carla add to tell you in her PERFECT ENGLISH that if you did not pay she would have to call the police because you did not want to pay for something that you have had, and you gave the money to the man and tool him to " stick it were he wanted" I think these were your words...not very nice for a gentleman in your age...and speaking so laud for everybodi hear it did not look good. Carla is very honest and friendly and you were not so good with your argument because I know that dish is very good not the most expensive one and very well served. And after you came to internet and write bad things about the restaurant. You shoud just go to the restaurant in poco partido and forget about a galé, because , like you tool her is the best place, for you...please BE HAPPY

I will tell Carla to log in here and answer her own criticisms when I see her next week.

I know for a fact that that she is sensitive to any criticiscm, and does repond positively to reasonable or constructive comments.

What no restraunteer can respond to is some angry person just putting the boot in!

I genuinely believe that Gale' is one of the best restaurants on the hill, and the constant high level of return bookings would appear to be testament to that.

:? Obviously 'cary' is part of the restaurant as all of his/her 5 posts are about A Gale, so I would think that they already have the info put on this site Bruce.......

Richard and I ate there twice during our holiday in May/ June and we thoroughly enjoyed both times. Carla and the staff always make us feel very welcome and joke with us. Our second time there we had a Chateubriand for the both of us to celebrate Richards birthday and it was really lovely.

We were in CVO first week in May.

We have been coming here for the last 6 years, and have used A Gale regularly.

Didn't use it this time, only because it was always constantly full.

Can't be doing much wrong imo.

Agree totally. You cannot get a place in Agale unless you book it. We couldn't all be fools   I am the big 4 "O" next week and will be spending what is obviously a special night for me, with my friends and family in Agale so that tells you what I think of it. Keep up the good work Carla and if you read this post " see you soon"

Against my better judgement, I went to A Gale last night. I had said that I would not bother again as the food I had last time was not really that great. My mother wanted to go so off we went. My mother enjoyed her swordfish, but my king prawn kebab was awful. Cutting the prawns was more like cutting a piece of steak, and there was no taste to them at all.

And no, before you ask, I didn't tell Carla. It is NOT my job to complain about food and ruin my evening even more. What would she have done? Cooked me some more? - they were just not fresh enough. My mother would not have continued enjoying her meal and as it is her holiday, that would have made me feel bad.

The staff are lovely there, and if I had chosen another dish then perhaps my report would have been different. In previous years the prawns etc had been delicions and tender, so no idea why things have changed. As this is now the third meal I have had which has been below the standard I expect, I doubt I will be back.

I have no problem with any of you who continue to say it is wonderful and how awful I am because I didn't tell Carla that I was disappointed with the food. In my defence I will say that she runs the place, she has chefs, and they are professioanls - and if they can't tell the food is not great, then why would they listen to me? And, indeed, why should I have to complain. I would rather finish my meal and just not go back - plenty of other restaurants to choose from.

The atmosphere and the waitress we had yesterday were great - but they either need to take some of the food off the menu if they cannot get the quality of ingredients or try eating some of the food they are serving if they don't realise that is it not up to standard.

We have not eaten there so I am not going to comment on the place but I do agree with you that if you run a good restaurant with good chefs then you should turn out good food, I know you can complain but really you shouldn't have to. The food should always be to the high standards set by the establishment.
