Can you advise as walking round with cash during the holiday really isnt preferable in this day and age...

In all honesty you are more likely to get parted from your cash in the UK than CVO, pilfering is far less of a problem than many larger resorts in Portugal and rest of Europe. If you are eating in town you are never too far away from the ATM, so if still concerned can just nip out at end of meal as I have done many a time.

lanterna velha didnt take credit cards for many years,they do take them now
