Casa Algarvia
I always go to this restaurant when i am in cvo and usually have to book as it is quite popular, This time i went in to book at about 7.30 in the evening for anyday in the week when they had room for 10 people, we where told that they could give us a table there and then, great i thought but how wrong was i.
The table they gave us was right next to the toilet so every time the door opened the smell wafted over to us, when we declined the couvert the waiter tutted and looked at us in disgust. When the meal come we where two portions of chips short so i told the waitress who said "Im busy hold on a minute", after 4/5 minutes i asked again this time a waiter who told me that just because we orderd 7 meals that said on the menu were served with fries and salad didnt mean we got 7 portions of fries we got 5 plates to share
I then showed him a portion of fries that where served to us that had about 25 chips on, He then said he would get us another portion which he did and threw down on the table which resulted in a empty pop bottle getting knocked over. At the end of the meal when they brought over the bill they said we usually give our customers a complimentry glass of port but as only two of your party ordered beer we thought you wouldnt want any
We spent over 170 euros in there and needless to say we wont be back there again.
By the way the food was quite nice but the whole evening was ruined by the service and attitude of the staff

Seeing other posts Loretta it makes you wonder what other people are prepared to accept! We went there in 2005, not impressed and the whole area smelt of garlic and again last year and whilst the food was at best adequate. Generally the whole operation is a soup kitchen and even the fish soup was weak with fish but heavy on tomato and pasta. Won't be trying this year and not recommending to guests on our hit list.
We always go to Casa Algarvia when in CVO, as do many locals. Never had a bad meal there, always impressed by the food, drink, staff and the reasonableness of the bill. Looking forward to going back in November.
P.S. they have always been open - November through to March - which many other restaurants are not.
