A Lanterna Velha

This place is really worth a try - great food and plenty of it together with really nice people made for a really enjoyable evening. The half bottle of Maciera also helped

Is this the restaurant that looks like a little house, with a small terrace covered with lights??
If so we have been there three times over this year (we only get the chance to come out about once a month for a few days) The food has always been very good and the service great, they go a bit heavy on the garlic tho'

Have taken several groups of clients to Lanterna Velha over the past month, and it just gets better. The menu is very similar to Chef Antonios, but the prices are better, and indoor part of the restaurant has better decor than Antonios which we also use regularly. The steamed fish papillot, is great and go for the nutty rice ratherhtan potatoes. Yummy Yummy and pretty healthy too.

We have to agree about A Lanterna Velha - excellent! Good food and plenty of it and we were made to feel very welcome, which some other places could take note of. It was a bit chilly last Friday evening and apart from a couple of hardy souls sitting on the terrace, we ate inside. Although it was busy it didn't seem too crowded with too many tables. We hadn't booked and we were well looked after. We can't wait to try some of the other items on the menu, including the Lanterna ice cream special!

The recent demise of Porto is taking its toll on Frank and Rob - the place is not as 'electric' as it is when things are going well at Porto.

The food is fine but it needs the balance.

However, I don't think their football fortunes are going to improve in the foreseeable future - Benfica will see to that.

it used to be my favourite restaurant in Carvoeiro.

the last time I went to Carvoeiro was in winter, and it was closed unfortunately. my next time in Carvoeiro might be in spring

does anybody know which month it usually reopens in spring?

It was closed over Christmas and through January, and opened during February. You should be OK from the end of February onwards.

To answer Lesley Jean - no that surely must be the Galeria you are thinking of on the right just past the hotel? Lanterna is on opposite corner from Xico Zé on the road that leads to the market.

Had lunch there on last visit, halibut steak in a tomato and pepper sauce
not bad. Will certainly try it again.
