I'm concerned about the Smokehouse proprietors, they seem to have so much bad luck I fear for their future, they seem to work hard and take risks but they don't seem to do their basic homework, they have taken premisess on for business and they haven't got the neccessary legality of trading sorted before they set up. I feel they are very naive, they seem to have a unique product something the existing and potential customers will seek out to purchase, so location is not that important, it must have cost them a lot of money to set up the business and they can't go on like that for very long.
I wish them well but they must get advice before they continue to have their dreams shattered. They don't need to be in the town centre like the Irish Times suggestion, and pay the increasingly high rentals demanded which seems to be the death knell of many traders in Cvo.
The restaurant on the ADM would suffice or something similar, why not talk to the owner of the under used ADM golf club and do a deal there, it needs an injection of entrepreneurism as far as I'm concerned.
They're not learning by their mistakes and it won't help their good reputation of supplying a unique product

Poppy's restaurant in Vale de Rei would be a good venue, easy to get to, possibly cheap rent and already set up as a restaurant. It would be nice to see it working again.

Hi Pato thank you for your concern. Having been in the Licensed trade for over 20 years, believe me, we have done our homework, business plans, SWOT analysis and the likes. Solicitors, contracts, etc you name it, we have done it legally and above board. HOWEVER, what no one can prepare you for is the rogues that are renting the places out in the first place (before anyone jumps on my back - not all are rogues!) They have solicitors, architects and the like on their side, so that everything is hunky dory and ready for you to do your business and take your rental payments.

Naive is not a word I would say about neither of us, TRUSTING more like and yes, it has cost us a lot of money over the past 5 years, but because we firmly believe in our products and believed with the necessary legal documentation in place that everthing WAS OK.

I am not in the mood to go into detail on here or anywhere else for that matter, but what I will say is that we can hold our heads up knowing that we did what was thought to be right at the time and have hundreds of new customers, old customers, who have continually supported us in our quest to be firmly established here. One thing for sure, you cannot accuse us of giving up at the first hurdle!

What happens next - who knows, but the whole love affair of being in business in Portugal? Falling out of love with that one right now, the courting days are well and truly over and the whole bureaucracy surrounding anyone trying to eek a living here is totally ridiculous, uncalled for and down right senseless.

So, if we stay or if we go, thank you Portugal, its been fun

Thanks Susie, the word "TRUST" is the naive problem, I trusted a friend years ago and it cost me £1 million, I took his word as a gentleman against advice and lost out, the old adage of Buyer Beware should have been observed and it wasn't.

There is also the old joke about when a jewish boy was stuck on his backyard wall and started to cry, his father came out and asked why he was crying the boy replied "I'm crying because I can't get down and I'm too frightened to jump" jump and I'll catch you said the father "no you'll let me fall came the reply" look! I'm your father and I love you, jump, "promise on your honour and on my mothers death you won't let me fall" the boy said wiping his eyes, father replied I Promise on my honour. The boy plucked up courage and jumped, the father moved away and the boy crashed to the ground in pain, "I told you didn't I, cried the boy" and dad answered........ Let that be your first lesson in life, never trust anyone, not even your own father.
Also if the landlord has issued false documentation can you claim for your expenses.

As Tricky stated, premises are available in abundance, I hope you can locate within walking distance to Carvoeiro. The void between the Tivoli and Centannes definitely needs filling

But why did it close down then? Went there several times and the food was great and very reasonable.

The lady/girl who ran it was pregnant and as far as I know on her own. She had some problems during her pregnancy and then some personal problems which meant she shut down the place and went back to the UK.
