O Castello for us.
We like the Dutch cuisine in CVO, as well. Oh, and some of the Portuguese! :D

Believe it or not.....we try to.

There are exceptions of course.......but when we eat out we seek out the best Portuguese food we can. In the main, that means avoiding restaurant hill, and eating in the towns and villages around Carvoeiro.

Try it....I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

We do,thank you and for you to come on here basically saying that you cannot understand why anyone eats Indian cuisine when on holiday despite the fact you obviously try other nations cuisines beggars belief.....put up or shut up.

I share the same sentiments! Personally, I love Indian cuisines, not everybody will appreciate the strong flavors. Also, some are not inclined to eat hot foods, but if you will just savor the taste, I am sure you will appreciate the different flavors bursting in your mouth. Chicken curry are my favorites, you can taste the sweetness and strong aroma of the flavors. Commercial Refrigerator

What are you rambling on about......."Put up or shut up"?????

Listen there all types.....those who like to eat as closely to the region as they can.....and others that go looking for their full English breakfasts, pizza bars, Irish pubs and the local tandori.

Fine.....you get on with it.....it's not as if we are likely to meet in a restaurant is it

This has become less about " curry houses " and more about what types of cuisine you can expect to find in the centre of Carvoeiro ( or any similar resort for that matter ).
You can find a wide range of what is euphamistically known as international cuisine which is low risk and satisfies 90% of the market.
restaurants do not go out of their way to offer traditional Portuguese food or its modern equivalents as few tourists would take the risk. ". chicken Piri Piri is a dish invented for the tourist.
As Bruce says if you want something different you have to travel .

It would be nice to see in Carvoeiro somewhere offering a range of Bachalau dishes. local game, lamb, offal ,the many bread, chickpea , cabbage or bean based recipes.Where can you get a decent traditional fish stew ??
We have been fortunate that business has taken us to the North ( porto , aveiro ) where the food on offer is much more varied and of a much higher standard , why because they cater for locals not for tourists

All thats missing in Carvoeiro is a decent Mc Donalds or KFC it drives me crazy to have to drive all the way to Algarve Shopping, still im told that the Antique bar is being turned into a Burger King so that may help.

Makes me laugh some of the pretentious food snobs on here. I like different and interesting food as much as the next person, but wherever you are in the world and no matter how good the food is; sometimes you just want a change

After 12 nights of eating local Algarve cuisine in CVO, I have often gone for a Indian or Thai curry just because I fancy something something different to grilled fish/meat or cataplana. And before anyone points out, yes the curry's out here are probably not up to UK standard (where we are spoilt from ethnic mix of population) but they are OK, and normally safer bet than something like Chinese where supply of authentic fresh ingredients is an important factor.

Most people when in the UK eat an 'international diet', and don't have traditional UK dishes such as liver and bacon and fish and chips every night, so it beggers believe why anyone thinks people should suddenly change in holiday mode.

There is rarely an thing ( or we have not found it ) as " local Algarve food " to be found in the centre of CVO or any of the main resorts .It is food for tourists and as such there is no reason why it cannot be Chinese, indian or serbo croat for that matter.

It would be nice if there was somewhere brave enough to take a few risks and serve the real thing or at least have a specials board
with a variety of dishes.

Why go to the expense of travelling abroad if all you want to do is eat the same food and drink the same drink as when in the UK.

Seems like a big waste of your time and money .

This is where I don't get your argument. In the UK most people would not eat only traditional UK diet, but a bit of everything. Therefore to think people would suddenly eat only 'traditional food' for 14 or whatever days whilst on holiday is a myth. Alot of the local menus are simply catering for the reality of what people actually eat. The local portuguese generally don't eat a million miles away from this diet either.

Most people go on holiday and want to sample the local cuisine whatever that may be (but lets be honest traditional Portuguese cooking is hardly different to many other european countries and broadly a simple fish/med type style) but will want a change at some point. The original post on here was just asking a simple question about where is a good curry house presumably for this change (and if we want to be pedantic Indian food does have a place in Portugese history). I don't think there is any need for anyone trying to take some gastronomic high ground for wanting the odd curry.

One of the better things about Carvoeiro is that it has NOT become a place where " English Breakfast, Sunday Roast , soggy Pie and chips etc " can be found at every other establishment.
BUT Menus are safe , too safe I think.

We would like to see in the village somewhere that is prepared to take a risk and offer more regional Portuguese dishes.
You are right in that the Algarve being a traditionally poor area does not have such a varied cuisine or one that would appeal to many who just want to play safe when on holiday

The lack of variety ( and risk ) is probably why we no longer eat out as much preferring to cook at home with frequent ( not always successfull ) attempts to repeat recipes from across Portugal.

Its a hell of a lot cheaper as well.

Its got nothing to do with food snobbery its about choice and variety or the lack of it.
