Restaurant reviews from 3 wks ago

Post by dennis75 »

Our stay during the last week of June through to 2nd week of July was definately a gastronomic success! Here are the notes we made on the restaurants we visited :-
As recommended by another user of this site - O Indiano- was very welcoming. Friendly service and a very good curry. As it is open on Sundays, it was an excellent first night choice. €50 for the two of us with a couple of beers and a tip. ( we liked it so much we returned a week later and the food was equally as good, if not better. A definate must for all curry lovers.
A Gale - I can remember this place from several years ago and I am pleased to say it's just as good as I remembered. A really friendly welcome with great food, service and one of the best Vino Verde's I have had. A real must if you enjoy your food.
Again, the second visit was as good if not better. For service, quality of food and value this must be one of the best eateries in the area. The Portuguese style steak is amazing.
O Cantino - was ok, but not really to our liking.
A Lanterna Velha - Excellent!! not the cheapest meal you will have, but definately one of the best quality. Very laid back with no rush, the fish was to die for.
Villa Medici - the best italian food I've had outside Italy :) A bit pricey but worth every penny.
Casa Algarvia - very nice, unhurried and pleasant meal. A really tender fillet steak. Eat outside and watch the world go by.

Continued .........
Chef Antonio - started off badly here - waited an hour and a half for our food, but have to say when it did arrive it was fantastic. (not sure if they went a bit over the top as an apology) They gave us a free bottle of wine too, would go there again but possibly not on a very busy Saturday night though.
Casa do Bife - for a steak cooked on an extremely hot stone at your table, look no further. I do wonder if paying a little extra to cook your own food is actually worth cost ? Yet again, friendly and excellent service, just make sure you are positively a carnivore because it's one big chunk of meat!
Ele & Ela - very busy when we got there but they told us to go for a walk and by the time we came back a table was ready and waiting for us. Service, as with all the others was friendly and good. The food was above average, but that was reflected in the price. One of the higher end restaurants in the area, but nice for a special occasion.

Hope this helps anyone who reads it and we're back on 21st Sept for another go 8)
