a load of bull
it seems that on saturday according to kiss fm today, a bull escaped from the bull ring in albufeira and charged down the road to the swatch rounderbout where it ran into a car...my understanding is that maybe someone was killed (?) - not sure of it was a policeman - and then the gnr shot the animal dead.
what a high price to pay for this modern "sport".

Five people hurt by bull from the Praça de Touros

Five people were hurt on Saturday by a bull that escaped from the Albufeira bullring and ran several kilometres before being shot by a GNR officer more than an hour later.
The animal, a bullock used to guide the bulls, was being transported to the bullring where there was to be a bullfight at 4 pm on Saturday, and escaped for reasons that have not yet been discovered.
According to the head of the local GNR station, José Rodrigues, it ran through a number of streets full of tourists in Santa Eulália near the centre of Albufeira, injuring three people and causing damage to an unspecified number of vehicles.
The officer said that, when it reached McDonald's restaurant, it bashed into the door of a car driven by a foreign woman and broke the window, but then it withdrew.
According to the description of lieutenant José Rodrigues, a GNR officer who was preparing to shoot the animal hesitated because of the possible consequences in the traffic-filled avenue and was wounded by the animal.
José Rodrigues said that the officer was twice butted badly by the animal before his colleagues managed to shoot it, adding that one of the bullets fired by the GNR officers went through a shop window and grazed a young man.
According to the same source, the GNR officer is thought to have fractured an arm and was taken to the Faro District Hospital, adding that none of the other people who suffered injuries needed treatment.
Two of these were assisted at the Faro Hospital and two others, who were only slightly injured, at the Albufeira Health Centre.
