excavation digger for small lake

Does anyone know who would be able to give us a quote to excavate a small lake approx 50yds x 50yds would need to be varying in depth between 4ft and 7ft

its very easy to hire a jcb and get the driver to do the work as you direct.
they are about 25 euros an hour....if you see one go buy just stop and ask or go to a builders merchants and get them to arrangeone for you.

anyway i hope you have plenty of water on hand for your lake....i wouldnt like to see your water bills!!!

We have a borehole on our property and have not had to buy any water yet. it supplys a very extensive irrigation system we are hoping that once it is filled the system will be sufficient to keep it topped up incidently i hope to have it as a fishing lake.Thanks for the replies

Well i hope your borehole can take it.....many if they are pushed too hard go salty..once that happens you will be stuck with a big problem.

do think CAREFULLY before going on...just because you have a borehole doesnt always mean you will have water..they are works nature and can be run dry very easily..(i know from bitter experience!!!)

dont forget the average loss ifrom a swimming pool is about 1 cm a day...multiply that up by your lake size and you will be going thru a lot of water

I would second what one of the guests said about being careful Colin. In this part of the world we see all too frequently the result of pulling too hard on fresh water aquifers in coastal locations. Before you know it the salt table has risen and you've got salt water close to the surface - I've seen coastal plantations wiped out because of salt water rising to tree routes. See if you can get the opinion of a hydro-geologist familiar with the region.

Talking of BORE HOLES.....I would appreciate advise/comments from anybody with some experience. I have asked a (Recommended) bore hole company to drill for me and he immediately told me that the best place to drill on my land in his opinion was at a point which is virtually at the top of a hill ?? surely one would think water would be closer starting from a low point ??? They charge approx Euro 10 per metre drilled if they don't find water and approx Euro 30 if they do.....Is this about right or am I being ripped off ?? I have no experience in this field and just woulkd have thought that water would be closer from a low point....there are three (Full) wells on this land.....but his comment ...Ooh not much water in these parts ...!! does worry me.

Why not hire a deviner...dont mind the spelling ..he will be able to tell you where to drill ,the depth to about ten metres and the flow of water ie gals per min

when i had my bore hole dug. (third one for me)...there was a german geology student on work experience..i asked him about devining..he said it really is nonesense...as the questioner rightly points out you are more likely to iind water in a valley floor than at the top of a hill

i am afraid that in my experience all most of these bore hole drillers are bit of what we might term "wide boys".....in the end i felt llike someone who had been raped....just tell me when your finished and how much do i owe you

just make sure they use the widest drill..so if in future they have to go deeper it not a redrilll job.
