Pool Cleaner/Gardners/Cleaners

Post by flipper »

Hi All,
My Grandfather has a villa in Areias Dos Moinhos, Carvoeiro. We are currently looking for a pool cleaner, gardner and cleaners that will clean on change over days and only when required...... my grandfather has had the villa since it was built and has dealt with only a few maids etc but i feel perhaps he maybe being ripped off so i think a fresh approach is needed.
any advise on prices and names of cleaners etc that we can correspond with easily before I visit in august to sort a number of issues out owuld greatly appreciated...

many thanks

You have 2 choices.......

1) Employ maid/gardener/poolman on a regularly monthly basis, pay the going year round rate on that basis.

OR

2) Apparently save money by closing up the house, letting the pool deteriorate, and the garden go wild for your "dark months" , then paying a much higher summertime daily rate for your untried staff who owe you no allegiance, and have alot more work to do to get the house, pool and garden back up to scratch after possibly several months of neglect.

We looked into this, and came to the conclusion that at the end of the day the fairly small financial saving wasn't worth the deterioration the property can suffer when it's just locked up and ignored.

The other issue is that unknown, untried temporary staff dont care a toss about you and your property, and we have found that year round staff do, and show it in several positive ways.

I agree with the earlier poster.

What appears to be an economy in using a pool man gardener "only " when you think they are required could be a false economy.
Pools can change condition rapidly, and if you have a aproblem and need a quick response not using some one on a regular basis could land you in trouble.

We pay a regular monthly charge and in the summer our pool man comes TWICE week our gardeners sometimes weekly and can stay up to 3 hours if there are headges to cut etc, etc.

In fact our gardener will not work on an " occaisional " basis.

I tired to organise a group scheme last year for any one interested in pool cleaner/gardener/cleaners etc - came to zero in the finish as very few seemed interested, but I did end up with an excellent pool man who charges €60/mth - courtesy of another forum member. PM me if you want his details
