Medical Information Please.

Post by logicbob »

Does anyone know of someone taking a new drug called Sandostatin, this is a time release drug and has to be injected every 28 days. This drug needs to be given by someone who understands it because it has to mixed and then given in one seamless motion. We are looking for a doctor or nurse with experience of this drug to administer the injection in Portugal. Any information would be appreciated.

I haven't used this drug yet but on viewing the Novartis website the technique looks simple and similar to other drugs that we commonly inject in this way. Any competent practice nurse will be able to do it and if the leaflet with the injection doesn't have diagrams there are some on the website. I couldn't see a Portugese section on the website but the Brazilian section is of course in Portugese.

You are quite correct but because the drug forms little time caplets, which happen very quickly after mixing. They need to form in the body and not in the needle, if they form in the needle the drug is lost. My worry is that the drug being very expensive, and we have to bring it with us from the UK it leaves zero margin for error. So I am trying to find someone with knowledge of using it in the Algarve. My wife has only had the fist shot so far so we have very little knowledge ourselves of any pitfalls.
