Ryanair - again

Does anybody know if Ryanair have stopped flights from Faro to Gatwick? We have been trying flight combinations from mid April to June - and there are none available - with a message that there are none operating between the dates we requested?

Look on skyscanner or momondo and they will give you details of all flights from Faro - or anywhere else for that matter.

I've been watching for the Spring and Summer schedule for months but it seems to be shrouded in secrecy so I can only assume that Ryanair won't be contimuing this route after April. It smacks a bit of what happened when Aer Lingus cancelled the route with no warning

Aer Lingus stopped because very few used them.

I am back and forth every week on Ryanair at the moment and every flight is full - apart from rows 3 and 4

Last month it seemed that all flights mid- to late-April were fully booked, could this be the reason? Don't think you would have a problem booking in May

I find that hard to believe! I flew with them regularly and the flights were always pretty full. I also know many others who had the same experience. The service was on a par with BA but the prices were below Easy Jet -all of which would attract passengers for sure. I knew several people who made multiple bookings with them for the whole of the summer but who were not even advised that the route had been cancelled - they also had to wait some time to get their refunds.

My understanding was that it was because of the boss O'Leary's Ryanair's holding in AerLingus allowed him to persuade Aerlingus to drop the Faro service, and allow Ryanair to take AerLingus's Gatwick slots.

Ryanair has been trying to takeover AerLingus, but the Irish govt has blocked it. Imagine a National carrier being run by that man O'Leary???

Got the answer - straight from the horse's mouth or rather a trusted source - the Faro service was only intended to be cover the winter period. I asked the captain of my flight back from Birmingham this morning - who in turn made a call and that is the company line. There is a degree of logic to that course of action - the winter travellers will not come in the height of summer and those that do will travel by charter mainly - he (O Leary) would be left with the 'dregs' and partly filled aircraft.

I will be resorting to Bournemouth and to a lesser extent Birmingham - all the others are off the price scale - for regular usage

We too are regular travellers and have never been on a half full flight in the summer, as the prices triple this is a good indication of demand.
The number of flight also increases as well.

It sounds like a bit of Ryan Air double talk to me.

thats informative. €2 per flight to recoup €88m , therefore the €1 per flight additional check in fee (up to €6 from €5) = €44m extra profits with no extra effort.

much prefer aer lingus but only to approx €20 extra per person per leg, over that amount and the head rules.

we cannot yet get to stay in CVO for the length of time we would like so unfortunately lots of shorter trips.

choice we have is A/L from either dublin or belfast, ryanair from dublin and easyjet from belfast. just totted up this years flights

january (1 person) march, may, june, august and october comes to just over €1000. some of those are mix and match ( out with one, return with another)
june a bit expensive, august was the bargain, october was cheapest.

I am a regular traveller - but don't have the patience to endure the crowds of families with kids during the summer months (I know they are all entitled to their holidays) and the whole airport experience during the high season - so won't travel during that period unless I really have to.

During the Aer Lingus period - we did travel many times on partly filled aircraft but since November 2010 I have had 19 Ryanair flights and apart from rows 3 and 4 each one has had 160+ passengers (I know this as I hear the dispatcher agree the number with the crew) so can't understand why they won't run during the summer.

My preference is BA - but their fares have now reached a level that beggars belief. I have recently used TAP to get to Frankfurt at fares that are not Ryanair level but sensible/affordable nonetheless
