Wardrobe doors & internal sections

In our villa plans our wardrobes are being installed from the usual brick/render shell to 3 sides. these are all away from outside walls. the build does not include installation of the wardrobe doors etc. our architect is a real fan of IKEA. have to be honest went there today and fail to see what is exciting about their doors. I would prefer oak coloured wood. not sure if it is really necessary to have a wooden Internal part other than the aesthetics. does anyone have good reasons for recommending we fork out for internal parts of the wardrobe. Money is really tight for us. I do feel a hanging rail will be sufficient but would consider installing some extra drawers. We will not be living in the villa but will need to rent it. I would prefer sliding doors and would also consider mirror doors. I see Macassa has previously suggested a firm on N125 but that was more than a year ago. Any thoughts on who we should consider installing the wardrobes and/or where we should go to see the actual product. How much do you think we may have to pay for wardrobe doors for 1 x 2m approximate and 1 x 3m?

We had a carcass built inside the wardrobe area with thermal insulation between the walls and the carcass. It's a dark wood with sliding doors and a full length mirror. We have drawers because we were advised that's what people want. There's a power socket inside for a space heater. We also have a shelf at the top that will take a suitcase.

Thankyou. I have had a quick look on the website. not sure about the doors, but very interesting about gates. clearly lots of things on that site so it may be OK for other things.

Hi Licy - if you are going to rent out or let friends/relatives use it, don't forget you need a lockable space/cupboard to store your personal items. It surprising what you accumulate once you collect clothes, toiletries, tools, golf clubs & other leisure equipment, etc. Also, it is worth it, as I now only have to take hand luggage on the plane.

I am having wardrobes, shelving & lockable cupboards installed right now. My builder sub contracted the work to R & S comercio de madeiras, e derivados, lda.

thanks Sam you are right we do need a lockable cupboard. we have a hall cupboard which we will also need to install a door which I forgot about as it's not in the bedroom. We also have a basement room with a door at the back of our hall which may be another store. until we get the villa looking like a real house rather than exterior walls and roof as it is now we should get a better idea.
Widget we will have to try and contact those sub contractors. co they speak English or only portugese?

I don't know as my builder organised it. The cabinet maker who has worked here for the past 4 days only speaks Portuguese & he's a real craftsman.

You ask about costs, the block walls are inexpesive maybe €50 a side. The wood interior, doors,mirrors & fitting are more expensive. A 2.6 metre wardrobe in proper wood veneer cost abot €700 fitted.

You can buy from Leroy Merlin & DIY if you have the tools and the know how?

Pretty sure someone will need to do it for us. We only need the front door. Probably sliding as the brick walls are already installed. I want it to look real wood, light oak as we don't like dark wood. Thanks as the price gives us an idea although I think what we need will be cheaper unless we need wood butting up to the rendered/painted three sides.

Went to check out wardrobes in Leroy Merlin. We like them. It looks like we could fit it ourselves. Well actually bring my brother out who is a DIY man. It is my expensive than IKEA. LICY

That sounds great. I'm going to measure the concrete version, although only so I can get an idea on price. When we come back in a couple on months we will probably order them. The wardrobes need to be rendered by the builders. Should have all been done by now but for the electrics not having been installed means their machinery cannot be utilized as the generator does not throw out enough power. Does it cost extra to make the shells and doors? When we spoke to them they had a number of different size doors, but no mention of made to measure, although to be fair the guy spoke limited English. When I spoke with them they certainly did a made to measure facility. Check at the information counter where they speak good English.
