Tragic event Carvoeiro square

Last night we learned about a tragic event that took place on (or nearby) the Carvoeiro square. It happened in the night from Wednesday 22nd to Thursday 23rd, and a portuguese man has supposedly lost his life, due to severe wounds after a fight.

So far I have not been able to find any confirmation on news sites, in journals, etc. Anybody here who knows anything about this tragedy?

Hi, yes it's true. I drove past at around 4.30 and saw the dead body on the road with the police there, an ambulance and tape all around. (If you have to see to believe - you can see on the webcam that at 3.30 the police arrived and from 4.30 onwards the tape had been put up).

It happened just infront of the pharmacy (in road) so the webcam just misses what happened. There have been different stories circulating as usual, but what people are saying is that some portuguese guy had too much to drink and got into a fight with the infamous carvoeiro gang, one of them pulled out a loose metal pillar from the side of the road and hit him with it over the head. - As I said, I don't know what is true and what's not, all I can confirm is someone was killed there at around 3am wednesday night/thursday morning 23rd.

We'll see if the police will ever manage to do anything about the people who are ruining Carvoeiro for all of us..

Thanx Jo & Carvoeiro1 for confirming. Just wished it was only a rumour... Situation down there is getting serioulsy out of hand, and nothing like the Carvoeiro I know for so many years. One can only hope that the GNR will no longer tolerate what is going on there, it is ruining the peace and quiet of Carvoeiro.

What is the infamous cvo gang that is referred to ? Is it portuguese or ex pats? I haven't heard of any other trouble caused by this group.

We met with Severine today (many of you will know her as Thunderbolt on this forum). It would appear that the whole sorry incident happened when the victim "bumped" a car as he was reversing. It is not clear, to me, who the car he bumped belonged to, but the upshot of it is that there were a "gang" of people, who had been drinking, that approached him, one of them armed himself with a metal pole, the ones that stop the cars mounting the pavements by all accounts, he then proceeded to beat the victim causing him fatal injuries.

The victim, a 35 year old man, leaves a wife and two young children, the culprit not only ruined their lives but his own and that of his wife/partner and their own young child, in a moment of madness for something that amounted to nothing in the long run! The culprit and two other individuals, have handed themselves into the GNR.

Apparently this group are well know "hoodies" from what can only be described as the "Chatsworth Estate" of Carvoeiro and have been responsible for a number of the burglaries in and around the village over the last couple of years! I can't remember the name of the estate they are from but it is near the traffic lights coming into the village!

Sadly, this is happening almost everywhere these days. The idyllic CVO cannot escape from this kind of behaviour i'm afraid. Not too late though for Portugal to clamp down hard on feral gangs, before it's too late. The solution is NOT to follow the liberal regimes that we've seen in the UK over the last 20 years and stand idlely by doing nothing....Portugal....it's not too late.

How very very sad & tragic this is. Sorry but this is getting more and more of an occurance within the Algarve, break ins, muggings, and sadly this horrendous thing .It needs sorting out now, as I said in another topic on villa break-ins please make the British consul aware of your concerns, at least they are a voice to your local camara and maybe can get to the powers that be, please make them known.
