IMI TAX - NO BILL THIS SEPTEMBER???
IMI TAX - NO BILL THIS SEPTEMBER???
Hi there,
We pay our IMI tax through our lawyer who receives the bills on our behalf and pays it for us, as we are resident in the UK, and there has been no bill this September. Last two years we have paid twice yearly in April and September althought the September bill last year was only 38 euro and the main bulk paid in April.
Has anyone else only received one bill this year and is this possible. We are worried that there is a mistake and we will end up with a hefty fine.
Thanks so much for your views.
Gabby

Re: IMI TAX - NO BILL THIS SEPTEMBER???
I don't know what alternatives are available from the Financas, but we only ever pay in April.
Re: IMI TAX - NO BILL THIS SEPTEMBER???
Two bills as usual this year. I was under the impression that above a certain value two bills were issued for payment in April and September but that below that value only one bill was issued but I am sure that someone will be able to quote chapter and verse. Although I have not gone back to check I think that you can check your IMI position on the Financas website if you have a username and password.

You should get two bills unless the tax is below a certain low level when you just pay one time (Prestação Unica) which is clearly shown on the April bill.
Re: IMI TAX - NO BILL THIS SEPTEMBER???
Thank you so much for your replies but i am even more confused!!
We bought our villa in 2009 and have paid twice yearly, via our lawyer in Carvoiero, up until now when she states no new bill has come in and therefore we wont pay again until April.
We obviously have fiscal numbers etc. Can anyone advise how we get onto the website to register and to find out our position. ie paid up to date.
Much gratitude to anyone who knows more than us (ie useless)
Thanks so much

What you lawyer says doesn't seem to make much sense. If you have previously had demands in April and September I can't imagine how that would change unless the IMI dropped dramatically to the single payment limit and that doesn't seem possible. Ask your fiscal representative/lawyer for your tax department internet password and then visit the site https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/pt/home.action
You will have to feel your way around this site but check patrimonio and dividas fiscais
