Cost to Remove Dead Palms

Post by traveler »

We have two large palms that have succumbed to the red palm weevil blight. Can anyone comment on what they have paid to have their palms removed? Did this include removing the stump from the ground? Any recommendations on service providers? Any advice on what to do next? Thanks in advance for your help.

The council will remove the leaves for you FOC - there is a day per month when you cna leave them outside in the road and they are collected. Cant tell you when but it's something like every 1st Thursday.

As regards the stump I would leave it as a feature! - you might get a stork on it!

All the dead ones in gardens near us have been removed. Apart from the chance of the bugs remaining in them they became very smelly as they started to rot.

One neighbour tried to cut it down themselves , what a performance gave up and used the team that was working in a nearby garden.

Be careful who you get to cut it down. I had a small Portuguese firm rcommended to me but they were awful and managed to partially demolish a nearby wall
Try to get someone whose work you can check on.
Because the tree was pretty close to the villa we had the whole tree cut down with the stump left as close to the ground as possible and then covered it with bark. We then used a large pot with another plant inside to partially replace the palm. The end result is fine. Good luck :)

We used Algarve Tree Services to take down a tree that was bringing a wall down. They were very good and took away the tree for us. Their number is 917 479 921 and the website is www.algarvetreeservices.com

Hi everybody!

I hope I can transfer my idea to you, instead of removing the tree while it is green ( and strongly attached in your land ) just cut the top and build some sort of umbrella with a product we Portuguese call "colmo" ( you can find it near the 4 estradas / cross road between Loulé and Quarteira on the 125 national road ), I guess you can find it at Leroy Merlin as well.

Or do it in other material and make a shower ( big ) out of it for the summer time.

In a few years that will become completly rotten and you will be able to manage that easier, or whoever that will remove it will have the job much easier.

Nevertheless if you communicate with the local camara municipal they may remove it for free ( or for a low fee eventually ).

Let me know which camara that is and I will personally call them and try to sort it out for you ( I guess it is worth the try if you can save a few € ).

Hi! Many thanks for the reply!

I have just spoken with the Junta de Freguesia of Carvoeiro ( mrs Helena ) and she is asking which house is yours so the staff that take care of the gardens and streets, etc, visit you to find out how to remove the palm tree from there.

You will not have to pay anything ( maybe give the men a glass of water or juice and be nice to them, I can not do it as I stay in Loule but if you find a friend to translate will be good ).

Helena from the Junta de Freguesia 282 356690 and if you tell Francisco is your friend and managed this you will be able to get them over there, or else just send me an email or post here which house is your so they can find it.

My email is somabonus@gmail.com and my mobile phone 919196907.

Remember, you will not have to pay anything but just be nice ( as usual ).
