Post by maccasa »

Where's the best deal on car tyres - my mechanic says I need two on my runaround?? I cant say I've seen a place - there used to be one near IZI on the opposite side but I dont think it's there now?

I have traditionally used the tyre place on the left on the 125 approaching Guia but I have not needed tyres for a while and in the meantime I have seen some really keen prices at the new Nauroto store near Maxmat just before you get to the Guia shopping centre. There is also the Intermarche auto centre "Roady" near the original Leclerc at Portimao and I have also seen good offers at the Jumbo store in Faro. If you are looking for popular sized tyres these new Halfords type stores seem good value.

There's a place in Parchal on the industrial estate behind Angel Pilot that I've used for a puncture repair. The telephone number is 282 423 437 if you wan to call an get quotes.

Many places beat Firststop prices in my experience. I was distinctly unimpressed with the wear from a couple of their own brand tyres that I put on one of my cars.

Found a damaged tyre on my Puma yesterday and so got two quotes for a 195/50/R15 Bridgestone Turanza. Pricing including a valve and balancing were Norauto €58.10, FirstStop €62.04. Naurauto irked me a bit by saying that they could only fit a single tyre if there was less than 1000km wear on the other tyre on the same axle. When I asked why I was told it was company policy. I said that I would therefore simply bring in the one wheel and this was deemed to be OK. No such problem at FirstStop and they are much nearer to me so I will probably go there.
