I'm sorry the link's not downloading, what date is the fayre? We went a couple of times last year & it was great fun, well worth a visit though we didn't wear costumes (far too hot).

Thanks for this info. Always known of this but don't know anyone who has gone. Where do you park? If we take the children, 7 and 4 yrs, would it be too much for them? Do you have to buy tickets? Basically - is it worthwhile going? Any hints would be appreciated.

This is completely untrue! He just dresses with the usual sartorial elegance that all golfers are known for.

my tips (this is based on last two years)

go about 5.30 pm . if you leave till later it will be very hard to find parking

park in car park next to swimming pool.opp football stadium

its all free except if you want to see jousting and the wicked black knight (the children will !)
only one show per night

buy tickets for jousting straight away . jousting is in enclosed area next to parade set up area in square next to espirito santo bank. (this is square to side of lidls)

wait in square for parade to start at about 6.30 pm which wanders around city and then goes up walkway leading to castle.

if you want to eat do so about 7pm ish as it will get very very busy after 9 ..loads of places around camara offices and further up towards castle

every street and walkway is filled with stands all the way up to the castle

hire the costumes ..do so early as there will be long queues later

change some euros for xelbs (under the main gates) all the traders should change them. if you have any left you can change them back..all adds to the fun

there are street artists and dancer throughout the fayre ..best place is in front of cathedral on the steps

wear non slip footwear as when you walk down from castle (at night)the calcadas are very slippery

have fun..the fayre is good for an entire night and a return visit

Agree wholeheartedly with what Martin says. I simply wanted to emphasise the need for non slip shoes. Last year the calcada was really slippery even though totally dry and naturally much of the area used is hilly.

Not being one for staggering up really steep hills in ridiculous temperatures, we were dropped off at the top near the cathedral & went a bit later in the day about 6 - 6.30, it's lovely when it's lit up at night as it starts to get dark, we then meandered down through all the streets looking at the different stalls, watching the different parades & stopping at far too many of the bars. We met up with people on both evenings in the main square about half-way down & passed some time supping ale & watching it all go on around us. Eventually we made our way down to the riverside area & had dinner in one of the sardine restaurants along the front. Really enjoyable outing, which is why we went the following evening as well.

All useful info. Does anyone know how easy it would be to get a taxi from Silves back to CVO?

I think ye can a lift on the back of a horse or maybe some medieval cart will be trundling back to cvo ..about 1 xelb a furlong I think from memory..just watch our for highway robbers under the silves tunnel. make sure ye sword is sharp to give you some protection

I agree Graham,falls down somewhat on common sense.
Shouldnt be to much of a problem getting Taxis as its there busiest time of year and they all come out to work,ive never had a problem in the last 3 years.
