Various -Pool Covers/ Cabinet Maker/Removals

Post by shanagarry »

I have started planning our move to Carvoeiro and am in need of some guidance please?

Can anybody point me in the direction of reasonably priced providers of;

- Pool cover maker
- Cabinet maker
- Electrician for additional plug sockets
- Removals company

Our existing pool cover was made by Peter Read and while there's nothing wrong with it - I don't want that style of cover when we move - it's a bit fiddly. While the traditional 'bubble-wrap' drag along the pool type is the most sensibly priced - I would like to explore getting a price for one of those plastic models that stands above the water and folds into itself but would be grateful for some pointers please?

Does anybody know a good cabinet maker in the Carvoeiro area - who's capable of building a home office and bathroom cabinets?

What's the most reliable and sensible removal method - is it more cost effective to use a Portuguese based organisation or a UK one?

All assistance and guidance will be much appreciated :)

For removals uk-PT-uk you can find them in the "NEWS", but personally we have had very good service from Algarve Removals - sales@algarveremovals.com. They charge ~ £90 per m3 and pick-up on time, will wrap any fragile items and arrive on time.

Hello there,

If you change your mind about a bubble cover, I can give you a quote for a good quality one, just let me know your pool size, I also sell the swimming pool safety nets which are very reasonably priced. 934297776

Do a spread sheet and list each item with its size - then use auto calc for the vol of each, then auto total the lot.

And if you do decide on a bubble cover, try castle hot tubs - www.castlehottubs.co.uk

Macassa - thank you - is there an Algarve office - otherwise it's a bit of a drag from Pembrook?

The Hot-Tub is phase 2.

We are on our third bubble cover now in eight years. The first was supplied by crooked dutchman (I have nothing against the Dutch by the way). That cover unfortunately got badly damaged by clients and had to be replaced after less than a year. On investigation, it worked out way way cheaper to buy one in the UK and have it shipped over. That was when it was about 1.50 to the pound, so now the savings would be even greater. I just googled cheap pool covers, and bought from someone like poolcovers.co.uk.

We have always used Chris and Wendy at Direct Transport in Albufeira and in the UK at Andover, for shipping stuff. Good value and very nice people to do business with. 00351 289591312. Mention my name (it won't get you a discount, but it might get me one next time )

For carpentry/cabinet making we have used a very good portgues guy called Joaquim. 00351 963743345 His english is very good too.

good luck

Hi Bob - thank you for that useful feedback. I can imagine that the bubble pool cover is a better solution if you are renting your property - but I would like something more aesthetically pleasing when we will be living with it.

We are there from Wednesday this week and I will give Joaquim a ring.

Thanks again
