new 5 seater vehicle for sale here in port and no car tax

by some strange fluke I saw yesterday at Fatacil a new 5 seater Jeep Wrangler - 5 seats, removable hard top. port reg and because they have put a "cage" behind rear seats its classified as a commercial vehicle and only has IVA and no car tax levied which saves thousands on the price

the salesman says if you buy the 2 seater and you are iva reg you can even get the iva back

best to go along to your local showroom when your in the algarve next and look at the itemized billing to see how they work out the final price of a car

Wandering around the Fatacil last night waiting for the Bootleg Abba concert to start ( just as tacky and good fun as expected ) we had a look at a number of new cars.
It comes a quite a shock to see that almost 50% of the price. is tax in one form or another.

Honda FRV 38,000 euros £35,000.

How do the Portuguese afford these prices ??

well I was told this about two years ago...a woman who had a VW had an accident..the repair was to cost over €2000.00

"I dont have 2000" said the woman

"well what we can do" said the salesman " is to take your car in px for a new one on this line of credit"

"Ok" she said

so now she is driving around Portimao in a new a brand new VW..she didnt have €2000 for a repair but because of easy credit she now has a new car and the appearance of wealth

another case of banks, smoke and mirrors etc etc

From what I have seen in car showrooms the baisc car costs "X" and the IVA and IA make it comet o 2 x "X" as a final price.
