Sapo to Clix ADSL-Problems?

Sapo performance and price has driven me to look elsewhere and I am considering moving over to Clix.
If anybody has experience of such a move I would appreciate details regarding procedure . Also down time experienced and other pitfalls. Clix advertise upto 24mbs. I was on 8mbs with Sapo and actually received about 5.7mbs down and .65 mbs up would the Clix system give about the same speeds?

I think, as a rule of thumb, it is not so much about what speed the user company advertises, more a case of what your local network is able to offer. Ie if the network is super-duper fibre optics, you'll get the full bandwidth, but if your end of it is old copper, then that physically reduces the bandwidth, and that is your limitation.

I was paying Sapo 42euros a momth for 24 mb and unlimited download but when I learned that their current prices were much reduced I asked to change tariffs. I found that my line could not support more than 8 mb and so paying for more than this was pointless. I also learned that unlimited downloads came free with direct debit and electronic invoicing. I have now halved my monthly cost and am arguing with Sapo for a refund for having put me on a tariff which could never be delivered. Sapo customer services is however totally hopeless and they continue to avoid the point at issue or simply fail to respond. I have asked for details of their formal complaints procedure and they ignore this too.

I would be interested in any views on a switch to Clix because I am not very satisfied with Sapo.

At some point in the past, I noticed that unlimited downloads was restricted to downloads from NATIONAL .pt based sites.
I think it has changed, but am not sure. Anyone ?

As hell will freeze over before I let anyone debit anything from my bank account automatically, we have moved away from the guild of incompetents that operate under the umbrella of PT and use a small buisness supplier called Claranet http://www.claranet.pt
They are a bit more expensive than the private suppliers, but the services are top notch.

Full flat rate, stable bandwith, no down or upload restrictions, monthly invoicing with payment by multibanco, hassle-free customer support (also in english).
€39 plus VAT for 4 Mbps per month.

According to PT, the infrastructure does not support 24Mbs in Carvoeiro, so signing up for that service level is a waste of time.

We have also been told that the fiber optic cable network is being extended through Vale do Milho.
Although the selection and cost of channels for Portuguese cable TV is no match for the free-to-air systems, a basic cable internet package will probably be available at reasonable cost per Mbps.
Expect a flyer under your door when whoever is extending the network is ready to acquire new clients.

I have noticed underground cabling work running across the road from El Paso and going dowm past the Vale de Milho restaurant into the VDM development. The tops of the junction boxes/ inspection pits in the ground have the initials PT so I guess this is what G is referring to.

I am using world telecom - the service has been good and reliable, they speak english and are local, based in Lagoa.

I find the speed and contention is adequate and have a VPN tunnel to my office in England which provides direct access to the servers plus a directly connected telephone extension.

Costs 30.57 euros plus tax per month.
