Has anyone got any more news about the opening of new IKEA in Loule ?

Not heard anything recently but a few months ago we read in one of the english language papers that it was going to be based near Alcantarilha, but these rumours have been going for at least the three & a half years we've been living out here. Too late for us now, we've bought everything, I suppose though by the time one is built all our stuff will probably need replacing.

I have always thought that these reports were more rumour than fact.

There are stores in the two nearest large cities, Seville and lisbon and doubt that the Algarve has the required demographics and size of population to justify the investment.
The vast majority of the population could hardly be described as the normal IKEA market, young aspiring with good disposable income, high student population etc.

The existing business structure is already in difficulties so I do not see IKEA rushing to set up in southern Portugal.

My next door neighbour at my holiday home in Mallorca is Ingvar who actually owns Ikea,i spoke with him recently about a store opening in the Algarve and he tells me that there are no plans to open up there and he is concentrating on opening more stores in Russia & China.
He is still going strong at nearly 80 years of age!,puts me to shame at 48........

The rumor mongering can now stop.
