Wooden or Steel Houses

Has anybody had either a wooden or steel house built in Carvoeiro - if yes how did you deal with the Camara (Planning Approval) and was it straightforward?

Were you able to get mortgage facilities for it?

What are the resale values on such a property estimated to be - compared to bricks and mortar?

Apart from Planning Approval - what are the pitfalls?

I have a building licence to increase my property from 169m2 to 350m2 - I am being told it will take the best part of a year - that's far too long. This looks like a solution as it's quicker - but I suspect there are many obstacles to be overcome first?

Danecasa at Guia are always advertising that they can provide a complete package, design, construction permits, etc.
Maybe they are worth a try or is there anyone out there wwho has used this company ???

I have spoken with them earlier today and given them a copy of the plans - what I would really like to hear about is the experiences any contributor might have had going through the planning process, the building time and then living in either a wooden or steel house in The Algarve.

Is it less or more expensive to construct and live with than traditional bricks and mortar?

In fact all the issues that combine to make it a worthwhile project or is is a fanciful idea that costs the earth?

Just a thought " if you change your building method will you have tp re apply for new project approval ??
We liked the idea of a " hoff house " but 4 years ago it was just far too much trouble to get through all the various approvals.

last year watching a forest fire, there was a dutch couple who stood next to me and had a wooden house - they told me that they could not get insurance here for a wooden house, so take care.
