Can Utility Bills and IMT tax be paid by DD or SO from bank

Post by gabby27 »

Hi all,

Nearly there on completion of our villa and stil so much to do! I wondered whether you can set up a Direct Debit or Standing Order for monthly payments for your bills as we do in the UK. We are opening an account at Barclays Bank in Carvoiero and it would be so much easier than finding you have missed a bill etc.

Many Thanks for any help

Thanks that is such a relief. it is scary paying bills so far away and relying on the post to get them to you.
All the Best

The only bill we can't pay by direct debit is IMI, due twice a year. Our solicitor's secretary pays this for us for a small fee, as she does for many other property owners. We then reimburse using an online transfer from our Portuguese bank account.
