Useless male needs help

I need to buy a new washing machine, but when I walk into Worten or equivalent, my eyes glaze over with the bewildering array of makes, models, sizes and gizmo buttons and features.

Its simply needed for a holiday rental apartment that accommodates up to 4 people. Sheets are sent out for laundry, so machine is only required for holiday clothes and towels.

I want to buy something simple, reliable and good value - not necessarily the cheapest.

At home we swear by Bosch for reliability, but I'm open to any suggestions, local recommendations and ideally just tell me what make model and version number or whatever to buy, and I'll add on the price of a cocktail or two at your favourite Carvoeiro bar.

Relevant factors, besides price, should be consumption and capacity.

If you are not washing the sheets at the house, then you don't need a big drum, so a 6Kg capacity should be enough. Modern machines have "Eco" program settings, that allow you to reduce the water consumption for the programs if the machine is not full.

I can second that Bosch is very good value for money as are the Whirlpool machines - stay well away from the Worten and Teka brands, as they are normally built with inferior components and are prone to breaking down.

Look in Wortan/ Radio Popular etc. See what they have on special offer.
Look for an A or B energy efficiency. If its just for the punters to wash their holiday clothes, you dont need a washer/dryer, and a 6kg load should be more than enough.
Should come in at about 200-250 euros.
They will deliver and install.

e-richard, we bought a Samsung from Mr Jacob in Lagoa he will fit it for you and if you get a problem fix it. Gambrinus is right you need a 6Kg machine which the Samsung is.

Great advice there... thanks everyone.

Definitely liked Jeremy's solution, but I don;t think it will fit into the standard 60cm space

I presume Mr Jacob or whoever fits it would take away the old one. Its still working, but its over 20 years old, showing signs of rust, wear and tear, and sods law tells me it will break down when I least need it to. So if there is anyone here who may want it for parts or for a museum, please let me know.

I cannot remember the make or model, but I'll be there to swap machines around 18th April onwards.

We bought the 'Indesit Moon' washing machine from Wortens or Radio Poplar at Guia & it is absolutely brilliant, it has only 4 settings (instead of the standard 104) & is more or less idiot proof as well as being more eco friendly. We looked at so many machines, all singing, all dancing but I know from experience most people only use about 3 settings & the more these machines have the more can go wrong with them. I can highly recommend it.
