drinking water

I must have got through enough plastic drinking water bottles to fill a landfill site the size of Portugal, which isn't something to be proud of.
Does anyone know of any attachment you can fit to make tap water drinkable (forget boiling it) or at least a place to buy water where they'll use your old plastic water bottles and re-fill them?

Portuguese tap water is drinkable.

Sure you are right Misty, and assume the Portugues drink it to no ill effect. The only problem can be the taste due to the usually high mineral content. No doubt you can get used to it.

But that's not what is referred to as 'tap water'

If you don't want to drink the tap water, and you don't want to keep buying the water, you can go and fill up at one of the many springs around the place for free, although my guess is that the nearest to Carvoeiro would be some distance i.e. Monchique way. Unless someone knows of any that are closer.

Ceramic filters are good, either under sink or shole house. This is an American page, but as it is a UK product should be fairly easy to find a vendor in Uk and possibly Portugal

I sometimes "forget" and drink the tap water., and I certainly use it when cleaning my teeth. It's never harmed me, and to be honest it doesn't taste that bad.

I once went back to Norwich and went down with a really bad stomach. it turned out that it was the Norwich water, not the Portuguese!

So beware the Wensum bugs!

We keep a Brita water filter jug in Portugal and take a new filter each time we go (approx £3.50 from Sainsburys etc.) We then fill the jug through the filter from the tap.

hehe... but it comes out of my tap, hence it is tap water............ yes ok I know, now I am just being silly, well what do you expect after a lovely day in the garden and a couple of good glasses of wine.. French Fleurie...

Thanks pm, it's the filter info I was after Would be nice to have a filter permanently on then I'll know it's good water. Wonder how much they cost...

There are quite a few companies in Portugal that do permanent water filtration systems.
