TAP Flights London to Faro - Summer 2007

Post by Scorpion »

Just been told by TAP that the direct flights i have booked in May and August from Gatwick to Faro have switched to Heathrow (which I expected) but are via Lisbon and that there will be no direct London to Faro flights this summer. Has anyone heard the same / know why ? Has anyone had experience of flying via Lisbon with TAP - is it just the extra time or is it a real pain? thanks

You could always consider driving down from Lisbon to the village. It can be done in under three hours and is very easy - it's downhill all the way :P

Hadn't heard about these flight cuts, but have flown TAP to Faro via Lisbon on a couple of occasions and its really not too bad. OK the total door to door time is longer, but the interchange at Lisbon is fairly painless.

We even had one occasion when the LHR-LIS flight was delayed a little, and they held up the LIS-FAO flight for us as well as escorting us quickly from gate to gate (thats the sort of service one gets with National aitlines at National airport). Otherwise Lisbon airport is actually not a bad place to stop for coffee/shopping or whatever.

I'd say, its a nuisance, but not a calamity.

It is very quick to drive from Lisbon to Cvo on the motorway, but the tolls are abour £20 (or double the time if you go non motorway routes). I'd stick with the flights!

Thank you all for the advice. We will stick to the flight. I'm just surprised that TAP would scrap the direct flights from the summer schedule - they made a big thing about keeping them on the current winter one. Guess I will need to look at BA and Easyjet in future. Using them from a trip in Feb.

We had also booked to go from Heathrow to Faro. We were then told that it would be Gatwick to Faro and Have now been told that it is Heathrow to Faro via Lisbon. However after checking that we could have a full refund etc and really not sure what to do I notice today that TAP are now showing the original flight I booked ie Heathrow to Faro as a direct flight again? We booked ours ages ago as it was cheap but can actually get a direct flight cheaper nearer to home in England. When I spoke to Tap they did say that you don't change planes at Lisbon it is just to off load and load people on.
Hope this helps

Thanks Cate.

Checked the TAP site again and our flight TP395 is LHR via Lisbon - we were on TP337 Gatwick to Faro (which is running on the winter schedule until late March).

Can't fathom why they would cancel the Heathrow direct service in the summer.

Im sure you have very good reasons for going via Heathrow, but from Woking, Gatwick is just as easy, and Easyjet, Monarch and BA all go direct from there, and in the main all cheaper than TAP. Have a look on www.skyscanner.co.uk That shows all available flights

Thanks Bruce - hadn't seen this site before. When we were only visiting once a year we got into the habit of using the early LHR TAP flight. Now we have our own place and will be coming more frequently will shop around. Are using BA & EJ next month. TAP flights we have for May & August are cheaper than anything available now - but wont be using them again if cant fly direct.

Anyone experienced this new "indirect" TAP summer flight from Heathrow to Faro via Lisbon? My in-laws took it last Saturday and didn't get to our apartment until 2pm - instead of the usual before 11am. Interchange at Lisbon was less than convenient (we had originally been told that you just stay on the plane - yeah! - no such luck). What have others found?

We are using it on Saturday - will let you know.

Anyone any the wiser why TAP have removed the direct flight to Faro from the schedule?

Probably because they are generally so expensive and flights are so inconvienient that they cant compete with Easyjet/Monarch and even BA on one of their own routes!

BA are flying from Heathrow to Faro this summer. I think this might have something to do with it.

We have travelled this way on 2 occasions this year having booked Gatwick/Faro- fortunately TAP emailled me to advise of the change they forgot to let my husband know and he was travelling separately from me. It is completely inconsistent and has been late every time in both directions. We've been off the plane at Lisbon and left in limbo, bussed across the airport to a different plane and left on the plane the one time it was running very late. Thank goodness BA have resumed at Heathrow.
