Carvoeiro's new 40 mtr military com tower
Re: Carvoeiro's new 40 mtr military com tower
I remember the first time we drove to the top of the Monchique mountains looking forward to some beautiful views & scenery, well we got the views but the place itself is just awful, covered in masts & satellites, at least up there noone else has to overlook them. I think the new coast guard tower at Caneiros beach spoils it. We live in the middle of nowhere but we can see electricity pylons stretching away into the distance spoiling the perfection of our view, but I want electricity & they have to put them somewhere.

View from Foia, can't be bad !!

OK so some wind turbines but I happen to think they are graceful and sculptural

You are right LJ....I've never had problems with wind turbines, and in many instances they almost add something to the landscape. Dont ask me how....in theory they shouldnt, but there is something elegant about them.
I thought originally that having them off the Lincolnshire and Norfolk coasts would be an environmental eyesore, but it isnt actually that bad. Certainly not if weighed against the enviromental advantages of clean power.
It makes the view looking straight out to sea off my old home town of Skegness....different.
Before anybody asks how I'd feel having one near my house, well as long as it was far enough away that I didnt have to listen to the swish-swishing noise.....I dont think I'd mind too much

While I have been traveling I have tried to keep up with the developments of this whole unfortunate matter. Like all before me I add my compliments and thanks to everybody who participated in getting the matter overturned. I know it is old news now - but it still shows a robust fighting spirit - well done.
What does intrigue me though is of the 3,380 people who viewed (I realise there will be many multiple views by the same people) the topic here on cvo.com - only 92 took the time to do something

A lot of us don't actually live there. I don't, but I was there in spirit.shanagarry wrote:...What does intrigue me though is of the 3,380 people who viewed (I realise there will be many multiple views by the same people) the topic here on cvo.com - only 92 took the time to do something

Michael Like you I'm in the same boat - miles away here in the UK.
I guess what I should have written is - how many of the 3,380 are based on The Algarve - looked but did nothing?

Maybe Bruce, and it's only a suggestion like, we could ask the Camara to site one on the ADM on that waste land, y'know where that other thingy was going, what do you think?Bruce Wallis wrote:You are right LJ....I've never had problems with wind turbines, and in many instances they almost add something to the landscape. Re: Carvoeiro's new 40 mtr military com tower
I'm posting this here - and also in the ADM section of the main Board Index of the forum, where I hope ADM residents and others will find an easy-to-access point of contact.
Good news. I've just learned that Lagoa Camara has removed the unslightly box that would have contained the electronics for the tower. As they've promised to clear any infrastructure associated with the tower this is a very good sign. Just before we returned to Canada I ran into Jamie Botelho, a member of the Camara, and asked when the clean up would begin. His answers weren't very encouraging but action is always better than words.
With that in mind, I hope everyone in and around ADM will keep their eye and ears open so that those of us who are far away can be informed of any developments.

Re: Carvoeiro's new 40 mtr military com tower IMPORTANT
From previous postings on this forum there have been suggestions that the Com Tower was to be relocated next to the lighthouse at Rocha Brava. Rocha Brava management and their lawyer have been in communication with various Government departments and they have now received a written reply from the Internal Administration for the Junto, Lisbon. Translated as follows:
Thursday May 28, 2009
'I can confirm that, in accordance with the project of the SIRESP, any antenna of the SIRESP will not be installed next to the lighthouse of Alfanzina since the results of a SIRESP health study have shown it not to be an appropriate place ’.

Re: Carvoeiro's new 40 mtr military com tower
I just saw this - been busy looking at other things on the site.
This is really good news - and the reason given just adds more puzzlement to why they went so far as to actually put the base for the tower in ADM, which is much more heavily populated.
Maybe we've started something. Maybe the authorities will institute a competent and transparent assessment process.
Well......We can dream, can't we?

Re: Carvoeiro's new 40 mtr military com tower
I've just heard there's a new tower visible on the coast side of EN125 in the vicinity of the International School. Has anyone got any clues as to what this is?
There's also a story in the current Resident about a new coastal monitoring system for Portugal. But that's different from the SIRESP tower that we were (are?) concerned about.
