If you become resident you can import one car duty free. Non residents who import cars pay €8.50 per cc reduced by €8,500 and then a further reduction of just under 10% per year of cars age. (This is if the car is over 1250cc. Small cars are much cheaper - I think about €2.50 with a €2,500 reduction etc) Homologation and other bits of paper add another €400 ish. A broker will charge a further €400 to do all the work if you can't be bothered. Not worth doing if you are buying an 'ordinary' car. Check out the car hire companies in winter they sometimes sell direct to the public. If you want a sports or a 4X4 it is worth looking for a LHD in the UK since they are cheap.
