Yes I guess so, although it's a bloody nuisance we did not spot that coming.

Licy, some people build or renovate new homes and they are brilliant at it and face no problems. Not because they have brilliant foresight and planning but because they learnt the hard way and problems they faced they will avoided in the future.

If this is your first house building from scratch in Portugal you have done exceedingly well.

thanks, but I'm getting pretty tired with delays. my friend visited yesterday and the bathrooms are still not finished, the final coat of paint, the second fixings too are not completed. Whilst I know in theory all those jobs are small by comparison, I don't see SACL commissioning the solar/airconditionimg before Christmas and neither do I envisaged us having certified electrics or running water I side the house. I wonder what we will be doing with our older friends who are coming out with us on 30 th December.

After such a long wait for the property to be built you are bound to get tired and a tad agitated or very! It is like a long flight - you endure the many hours and then when the final leg of the journey is in sight - you want it to end, here and now!

As for the 30th? You'd be suprised how people make the best of a bad situation and in the end enjoy themselves in the end! The problems you envisage may not even come to that, Licy!

Wouldn't I like to think that, but I cannot understand why so little seems being done. I know with DIY you often have to do a lot of prep and you wonder where the time went, but they were meant to get the painters in over a week ago. I guess there is still too much activity. We need the electrician to put the lights up, as we had to remove them so the painting could be done. Its a knock on effect, no painting, means no sockets, no sockets means the electrician does not sign off. In the bathrooms there are no shower screens and the basins need to be placed on the stone work. The basins have the fittings on, but they are laying on the floor. The electrician is to also put the towel radiators up. The kitchen is all but in, but no use to me if I do not have electric and water. It will also mean that I could not leave my furniture in situ and replace the curtain rails etc if this work is not done or at the very leave the painting done. Mr Licy is to phone tomorrow in the hope we can get some kind of details. I know when its finished it will be great. Are you there now? I just tried to insert a picture but do not have the details so I failed miserably.

I assume the porcelin device on the middle of the pic is a bidet? If so, the top next to it makes an ideal improtu armrest.

It should have been a bidet but we had to forgo as the wall opposit was only 4" thick and could not take the suspended version, so what you see is a WC to you. Yes it is a shower which also has a bigger shower above but you cannot see. We also have a very saucy window in the shower which looks out to a terrace across the road at Macassa. So Macassa if you read this I want to know if you can see me showering in my bathroom.

By the way the arm device is for the sinks that are laying on the floor in the bedroom.

Well, come the searing hot boiling Algarvian summers those tiles on the floor will be blistfully cooling on your plates of meat!

Although it is calling it a bit close for end of December, you'd be suprised how quickly things soon fall into the place once the donkey work has been done such as plastering and painting.

If the house is going to be the honeymoon location for your daughter and son-in-law then they are very lucky indeed. All you need to worry about is the hat you are going to wear for THE big day!

LICEY, an employee of mine who's worked for me for many years has just informed me that her son has been found hanged, he was 37, just think how lucky you are, and stop worrying over bricks and mortar, it'll get done in the end.

That is really sad particularly at this time of year and yes it does put all the little issues with kitchens, paying tolls, spinning water meters and the like into real perspective. We are living in difficult times and I just hope that things will get better in 2012 for everyone and that we do not hear of any more tragedies of this nature. There seems to have been a spate of incidents like this in the news recently. Let us all hope there are no more.
