Re: How do you pronounce
Obrigado is "thank you" - accurate, polite, portuguese, male response. Obrigada - same but from a female. Obrigad(e) is equivalent to just "thanks"
Re: How do you pronounce
Exatamente.
Though I often get the obrigado response from Portuguese females these days, in shops & restaurants & just in general. I nearly always say obrigada rather than just obrigad but then I nearly always say thank you rather than thanks.

Re: How do you pronounce
It should always be 'obrigado/a', I'm quite sure 'obrigad' is a question of accent and a lazy one at that. Don't even get me started on 'brigad'...

Re: How do you pronounce
What about obrigadinio/a which we have also heard ?
Re: How do you pronounce
When I read maccassa's info I got a sense of deja vu.
Wonder why ?
Re: How do you pronounce
The longer obrigadinho is more like thanks (go figure), but the Algarveans often use the diminutive in most words (peixinho com batatinha frita, for example)EMM wrote:What about obrigadinio/a which we have also heard ?
