Infinity Pool - Cover

hello shangary,have you thought of buying a cover in the uk&getting it shipped over ? i will be doing this as its a lot cheaper than buying one in portugal as the prices i have been quoted are absurd.theres a guy who is on here ,charles hewitt who had his own cover fitted by a guy from lagoa.

But Shanagarry's from Ireland, if he bought one from there it would cost him an arm and a leg presumably.

you buy it from e bay or another supplier then have it delivered to a freight company like north west freigth who would deliver it for approx £100 but when you are probably going to save around £300 on the prices they want to charge you over here it is worth it

It isn't a case of getting a cover, any cover - it is to do with the shape and then finding a way to secure it to stop the wind taking it - as it would have done over the last week. My problem is that two sides of the pool do not have anywhere to anchor the cover as they are open to the elements.

Alf - your suggestion (e-bay) is fine if all I wanted is a standard sized cover that lies on top of the water and where you have four sides that are higher than the water level - I don't.

I have contacted all of the suggestions provided to me over the last few days - the 'best' price is £8,500 + vat (estimate) - the most expensive is €15,000 + IVA. All four prices received are electrically operated covers - which isn't what I am looking for. I can understand why they are electric as they run along a groove cut into the pool's wall which also keeps the cover in place (understandably,there isn't a manual option). Excellent concept but seriously expensive.

When I compare that with a conventional pool cover at €270 - it beggars belief

Go for one of these. No additional cost for the pool heater and very low winter running cost and in the long run will save you money and add value to your property.

Not what you want to hear but I knew how difficult and expensive it was to cover an infinity pool - that is why I am rather smug about my 'normal' pool when all the neighbours selected the flasher looking ones (and my pool toys don't blow out all the time!)

You are pushing on an open door - the infinity pool was there when we bought the house and was not something we specified. As for pool toys - it does have some benefits as it keeps the pool clear

Maybe a solution, and can probably be tethered together and then fastened to the two sides that don't overflow.

Thinking about this for ours, as the bubble blanket is a pain.

I have done some research on the Solar Sun Rings and found the following review site. We would need 15 for ours as well as one for the integral spa at a total cost of £800 + carriage - and based on the comments, I am not convinced.

On average - they don't come out too well - while the comments are made by people in the US - a great many of them would apply here (particularly those that relate to the wind) see what you think

I read this with interest simply because we will need to buy a pool cover when our pool/villa is built. our problem will be the shape of the pool is very irregular/angular. At one end the pool butts up to the villa, the other end has the terrace by the pool steps. that part of the terrace does not appear on paper to be very wide/deep. To the left hand side of the pool it butts up to a terrace wall, which then leaves the right hand side with the main terrace. I have no idea where we could place a metal roller for the bubble type cover. has anyone got any wonderful ideas. Our pool water level is lower than the edging stone. thanks

For the record - I have abandoned all hope of getting a cover at a sensible price or otherwise. The least expensive price was €1,700
