There's a really good Japanese restaurant at Praia de Rocha, how about Christmas sushi? No? Failing that the freemap for Portimao & surrounding area might be a good place to start looking & if possible try a few of the restaurants before you make your booking.

I can't believe I'm talking about Christmas & it's not even October yet!!! Whatever you do, have a happy one.

In Alvor you could try Vila 45, Goodville and the Vagabond but I'm not sure which (if any) would actually be open on Christmas Day with the family and religion being so important to the Portuguese.

Barnards in Ferragudo is open Christmas Day but I think gets booked up early.

Also Dockside in Portimao marina might be worth considering if they are open.

You might do better trying some of the bigger hotels that stay open all year round.

Worth making the point that this section of the forum is jointly titled "Portugal Living" not "Carvoeiro Living" so your question was perfectly valid. The flat earth society is alive and well and seems based in Carvoeiro. I am always amazed at the very limited view of the Algarve and Portugal that some forum members have.

ANYWAY, Back to Christmas Dinner, which I think was the question? We are travelling out of Carvoeiro (shock horror) on Christmas Day too. We are going to No Patio in Lagos, absolutely fabulous restaurant, delish food and I dont care that we have booked it already It gives us something to look forward to as its our first Christmas off in 16 years, no veg to peel, no turkey to cook, bliss!!! So wherever you go, ENJOY

We usually spend New Year in the village , but this year Christmas as well, we booked into Maximes so hope it is as good as everybody says on Christmas Day, we have never had a bad meal there yet

I shall be cooking Christmas lunch in CVO. A walk to the square for a hot chocolate after opening pressies and then back to the villa for a home cooked lunch!

I actually don't mind the cooking..... Especially if there is a decent bottle of wine open whilst I am doing it! Then sat out on the patio to eat and chill out with a book or game afterwards.... I really can't wait to get out there!

I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to start world war three.
I would like to say a couple of things, firstly I would like to thank Pickwick for being my knight in shining armour, it is very much appreciated. I'm glad that there is someone out there on my side and who understands my query.
Secondly, to all those who were being rather nasty, I know what the website is called, I also know that restaurants from further afield have been recommended many times on this forum, which is why I asked for advice from all you lucky people who live out there.
We won't be arriving until 23rd Dec, so I was really looking for something that could be booked via email/internet.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions, I will certainly be looking into them all.
And of course before I go I would just like to say, boas festas.
