Gerry Cullen"]In my case they took the safe and all[/quote]I had a wall safe fitted in the house in Cvo, the keys went missing and I've forgotten the combination, I think the battery is dead, so the safe is useless, I can't open it, any suggestions, I was hoping a burglar may come and open it for me, but no such luck

Maybe a little more police presence would help, we know the times these individuals prowl and surely, as with my experience they can see non holiday makers around the complex, do they have the right to stop and search here?. The homewatch system employed in the UK does seem to be a deterent, but the local constabulary will have to co-operate in order for it to work, to me the police seem to resent non Potuguese residents and consider us fair game for the criminal fraternity :? .

Are you referring to Neighbourhood Watch? I am our road's NHW Co-ordinator. Most of the residents keep an eye open for 'strangers' and monitor their activities - and if they are suspicious or concerned they call me and I involve the police if I deem it necessary. It works well, so long as the residents take an active part.

Michael,

That is very public spirited of you. and of your neighbours I am sure if all residents in Carvoeiro did that property crime would not even be mentioned.

Well done.

Don't thank me, thank all my NHW Scheme members, it is they that make it. I am just one person - but together we are many.

What really helps me in my NHWing is that I get regular emails from the police regarding 'crime' in my area (and elsewhere if relevant) and they are passed on to my members. This use of information and the sharing of it is a great help and makes it harder for 'criminals' to go about their 'business' undetected.
