Our immediate neighbours on front side are Portuguese with one as a holiday home. Heading up the hill holiday homes, but no idea how to get hold of them, save Macassa who uses a dongle for emails. Hubby checked caboviso site, putting in our postal code and it appears to come up we can have cable. NOS has been pretty good as has the Apple box this trip, but not perfect. We suspect in spring/summer the downloads may lower again. This morning it was poor, with the best at less than 9mbps and one time being less than 3mbps. Hubby is going to cancel the trial at the end of our trip.

Licy I am pretty sure Cabovisao installed cable when your road was dug up about 2 years ago. We have been with them for about 8 years and after initial problems with losing signal when it rained have had no problems.
I complained about download speeds when the satellite problems arose and within 24 hours they sent a technician round who replaced all our cables, modem/router and upgraded the external box at no charge. We now get good speeds, excellent HD Portuguese with lots of English language programmes, free Portugal landline calls, and free European calls after 21.30 and all day weekends and holidays for € 31 per month - i.e cheaper than any other system we have come across.
Why are you messing about looking at other complicated and expensive systems

I spoke to Macassa who said cable was possible and also inserted our post code into caboviso's system and it came up as yes. Checking on line, all in Portuguese of course it seems the same type of package is 6 months 24.99 and then goes up to 36. We are going to take the router back when we leave and try again on our next trip. Last night we also tried the speed test whilst at Macassa which is higher up the hill. Initially it came out at 16. But later it was under 10mbps. During 9pm-10pm TV at our place we had some freezing. Test registered at 1mbps.

Licy, I tend to agree with Roy on this. If you are lucky enough to have Cable installed in the Road, then in my opinion ,you are very fortunate and this has to be the Route to go.
I am sure after a quick phone call to the appropriate Companies to establish the possibilities, they will bight your arm off for the business.

I think in all honesty heading up hill towards Solferias may mean a better Mbps on a standard router system. Roy is also a far higher point than we are.

Hopefully that is the case. I am certain its not in our cul de sac, so fingers crossed that will not affect things and they still consider as as Rampo do Solferias. The next trip could result in having to endure True Movies in the evening.
