I have undertaken a number of speed tests as we are now having our 15 day free trial, albeit we can only manage 12 days whilst here. Our download is a maximum of 20 Mbps. So far the best was 11.48. I have also tested our existing internet provided as a house share option for up to 3 homes. Having said that the new NOS contract would also provide the same, ie you can share with more than one location. The old version has given me this morning .42-5.48mbps and the new one 11.43. It also gives a point score rating for PING but what is that? We have been able to watch Filmon TV with far more success on the new NOS system. Has anyone else got this type of shared internet even if you do not share it?

Ping is the time it takes for your signal to get to the place where your internet providers server is based&back to your PC , it is usually very quick&it usually timed in milliseconds.

Licy, I have been reading your comments with interest.
We are not far away from you and have horrendous problems with our Internet as they, PT and NOS say we are in a Dead spot.
Last March, via World Telecom, we changed to Nos. We managed to get 4 g, with an External Antenna looking at the mast in Silves and achieved between between 6 mgb to 50 mgb download. This was great for a month and then the signal dropped right off. We now get between .95 and 6 download and 6.45 upload.
Dispite numerous phone calls to World Telecom and Nos, they say there is nothing they can do. Excuses being, Atmospherics, over use by Tourists and Interfearance fom Spain.
I will be shortly throwing their equipment back at them, as I did with PT and resorting to my little mobile Vodafone Dongle which gives me a minimum of 6 mgb with 50 mgb download per month and costs half the price.
Btw, I even offered to PT to pay for the connecting a Cable to the Central Box which is 100 yards down the road. Of course they wouldn't have that.
Although you are on a trial with Nos, ask them for a guarantee of your minimum download.
Do not refuse to pay their bill for their inificiency, as they will just cut you off.
They have been overcharging me since March but have only now started to credit my account. How much € 260.00. Which I had to pay to keep this service.
I would suggest you only use them as a last resort.
As for the other providers, knock on your neighbours doors and see who they use and do a speed test on theirs.

Cost is € 31 per month.

Yep Roy that's not bad as long as you have Cable to your Villa, you are laughing.
How about us poor Souls who can't get Cable as they don't want to supply it. When asked when it will come to us, I was told sometime! Can I pay for the Cable, NO!

Does anybody get UK TV anymore - in the way we got SKY etc in the past?

There was all the fuss when the satellite changed its position (or something similar) several months ago. I remember reading Pickwick's explanation where he set up a system to provide most of what came via Sky and haven't seen anything on here since? Has everybody given up on UK TV or is there an acceptable and inexpensive facility that works around the clock? It seems from the recent posts that there's a mixture of solutions - none of them very reliable - is that right?

There are several solutions but each of them involves a compromise of some sort as they all circumnavigate in some way the fact that SKY and/or terrestial UK TV cannot be received legitimately in the Algarve. You can use IPTV to receive channels via overseas portals or your own UK server but these need speeds that many people are finding unreliable. Additionally some of the overseas portals are constantly being chased and then shutdown by UK broadcasters (mainly on copyright grounds). International court cases just keep rolling along with no final ruling. Masking your IP address and using a UK Sky card works but is contrary to all their customer agreements and if Sky change their viewing cards again everybody needs to get new "bogus" cards. Pointing your dish at Intelsat 907 and inputting BISS codes works but the codes keep changing and then you rely on a hacker posting the new codes.

If you want a long term stable solution it seems you either need to take out UK pre-recorded programmes on DVD or USB sticks or learn Portuguese and enjoy the absolutely brilliant programmes that they broadcast

I get all the UK channels including all the regional variations, HD, 150+ ever changing films, 7 day catch up TV all for 20€ per month on an IPTV box called The Blade 360. I have an unlimited download internet service from PT that delivers 12mbps so get HD on all the main channels so no problem at all for me!!

Apple TV works well as long as you have decent broadband speeds. Occasionally, for reasons that I can't explain, It only projects the sound on to the TV and leaves the picture on my iPAD, but that's not too inconvenient.

Yep that is what I use as well, very good clear Picture.
To get over the sound only, mirror the image. Also ITV, Bbc have improved transmissions recently.
This subject has slightly deviated from original.
Could subscribers please let me know what Internet provider they use, together with average speeds.
Bearing in mind I can't get Fiber Optic or Cable connection.

Meo are my internet/broadband provider in Sesmarias. Average speeds are: download 11-12 Mbps, upload 0.5 to 0.8, ping 15 - 25 Ms.

No problem.
When you connect the I Pad to the Apple TV box their is an option for mirroring. I.e whatever is on your Tablet is also on your TV. No loss of quality.
Have tried Meo, thanks for the info. They can only give me 2.4 mgb download.
Have established there is a major problem with the NOS transmitter in Silves for the next two months. They have agreed to not charge me for my connection for this period.
We will wait and see what materialises.
