How fast is your broadband?

Back to the topic....I doubt very much if any of the broadband around here is fast enough to stream live TV, in spite of all the glossy advertisements we are seeing.

Currently I am picking up 7.6 mps on my I pad, have been up to 12 on mainframe. Both are good enough for downloading Live TV

You may well be close to a fibre end....up here, we are on the end of a very long and dodgy looking copper overhead cable, which is very lossy.

We're with PT/sapo, and over the last few weeks we have suddenly shot up from 5-6mbps to a constant 10+mbps.

We are on the edge of Carvoeiro clube in Finisteira which is at the end of the line for telephone cables before you drop off the cliffs, and we don't have fibre.

You don't need anywhere near some of the speeds being quoted here to stream tv.

I rarely get more than 1.65 mb/s, but can receive sky channels with very little interference. BBC and ITV are not quite as clear but still watchable.

There are reports for what they are worth on some sites that the change over day for the new sat and possible loss of UK tv is the 1st December???
We are having an upgrade from Cabo Visao done next week which should give us an improved download speed anywhere between 10 and 20mps.
The new package is cheaper than our existng one ( for at least 12 months ) and gives us wifi, 120 channels, hard drive for recording progs,plus better deals on phone calls within PT and overseas.
We shall see ??

My little Tesco Hudl tablet is doing a great job of streaming TV here in the UK and full HD to my TV via the hdmi cable. Brilliant for £119 and if you ecxchage £60 of club vouchers you can get it for now't.

We have just had the Cabo Visao one box system installed.
Head reeing as I am showing a speed of 54mps!!!!.
Al we need now is a new laptop so that we can watch nternet TV if required.

Call Cabo on friday, put through to Englsh speaking staff, arranged installation. the engineer took about 90mins .
Now the fun starts.

Not me, we have friends staying for christmas who will be bringing their Apple gizmo with them so that they will not miss UK tv.

in the interests of being helpful to the vast majority of readers on here let's celebrate the fact that everyone's broadband speed is going up and advise that far from being sued into oblivion, online TV streaming is perfectly legal and is being actively supported by the broadcasters, they're falling over themselves to do deals with the streamers, take a look at the share price performance of Netflix, click on the 2 year chart button to see what's been happening;

you don't necessarily need to subscribe to a company like Netflix or Lovefilm (both great for movies) because you can access BBC, ITV & C4 on their iplayers for free to watch the Corries & the dramas etc

just subscribe to a VPN & you're off and running, I don't want to promote one in particular, there's tons to be found if you google it, but perhaps some residents want to report some success stories?
