Here we go again!

Post by LICY »

well it seems we sort one problem out and there is the next waiting within days. having just filled the pool yesterday, we find out we ate still on builders water supply. Only found this out when the utilities were being changed over so the villa managers could pay it instead of the lawyer. A letter was received that in a nutshell said we have to change tariff or risk getting cut off after 15 working days. Why do we never get a warning? last year our electric got switched off over Easter because it was on the builders supply, it was a costly nightmare. I do feel we have had bad lot building our place.

We have been there have the T Shirt, it is really up to your builder to keep you informed but he is happy as you have been paying the bills.

At least you have enjoyed cheaper water for the last 12 months. :D

Don't get me onto builders etc, my post would be pretty big. Does that mean having to re-fill the pool because the previous idiots didn't install it correctly causing us to pay €0000's to replace the skin is actually not so painful because my water was CHEAP? :D Gling to get more shocks later this year I guess when we get real water bills.

Have you considered filling your pool with bottled water from Aldi. That might be a cheaper way?

I am afraid you will need to put this down to a learning experience which is obviously unfair.

It is always best to double check these things and I have nearly been caught out. Hindsight is a great thing, though!

When I sold my house in Ireland seven years ago I ensured all the utilities were stopped on the day the property changed hands. For some reason whether I was at fault or the ESB(the Irish electricity board) those communuication were not reached. The new owner of the property converted the school house into a selection of flats but he did not ensure that the electricity was converted into his name; he continued to use the supply of power that was under my name. After seven years I am still getting quarterly bills now totalling €7,000 with constant threats of legal action. The buyer of my property was a developer and he went bust! The development has a new owner but still the power is being racked-up and Í am being told I am responsible! :?

I have written to the ESB countless times sending copies of documents that I no longer own the property and made countless telephone calls to no avail. I have informed them I have no case to answer and I would welcome court action against me! 8)

The fact that I am in the UK under a separate jurisdiction means taking court action against me would be vastly expensive BUT they would if I lived in Ireland despite the in fact and in law I am not responsible for a €7,000 bill!

The water bills may now become more expensive(they will!)but your new home will soar in value over the next few years when the Portuguese economy recovers so despite these infuriating problems it is a long term very advantageous financial gain. A lot of water will have passed under the bridge from today until the day you sell that property; if you do that is.
