It is so easy now to take a dog to the UK . Why would anybody anybody need to rehome one yet again ? I wish people would work at a rescue centre now and again and see just how this affects faithful dogs, it screws their mind up forever

Yes we did and are trying to find a solution to avoid rehoming him - but our immediate living arrangements do not accommodate pets.

I agree, but practicality has to prevail. While the rehoming is, we believe, the last resort, we are trying to revamp our moving arrangements to take him back - but other circumstances are not conducive to a cost effective practical solution - at this time. If there's a way - we'll find it

Sorry to learn the circumstances of your departure from Carvoeiro. I hope you have settled back in England.

I assume that you had to take your cats to a vet for vaccinations etc before you left Portugal. As I and my wife will be bringing our cat with us soon, would you advise me of the email address or telephone number of a local (to Carvoeiro) vet so that I can double check procedures at that end.

Also could you or anyone else advise me on collection procedures at Faro airport, please? i.e. is it straight forward and quick?

Perhaps shanagarry has relocated to a house / flat where dogs are not permitted ? Give the guy a break he feels that he was forced out of his home in Portugal by criminals & had to relocate at short notice.

Peter - thank you for your support - you are correct - we have made temporary arrangements which preclude pets.

We have very good friends (in Carvoeiro) who understand our predicament who know our dog (and he them) who are delighted to adopt him.

Yes the incident may have been the " final straw " but it is not as if he was being robbed on a weekly basis.
Clearly life in Portugal for whatever the reason or reasons was not for him and his family.
It does not work out for everyone.

If you read this thread you will see my posts on this subject.
I know the house and the area well and it is not a crime hotspot we live just a few 100 metres away, in fact it is probably one of the most secure areas in Carvoeiro if we are to believe comments about other parts of the resort.

Not true - life in Portugal was for us and I am very disappointed at having to curtail it. It's not as if we were new to the Carvoeiro - we had plenty of time to familiarise ourselves with all that we believed was good about it. We probably lived a 'charmed life' in that we avoided all of the criminal activity that appeared to impact others during the time we were holiday makers and then absent owners. The reality of coming face-to-face with it twice in a very short time does make you stop and think. Had we had personal previous experience of the issues we encountered, it's likely we would have stayed as we were and not moved. It makes no sense to swap one high security zone for another even if it has a better climate.

Anyway, it's done now and while I might wish otherwise when the rain and snow comes - I have the option to get on a plane and escape

Well at least it seems that the dog will be homed with people he knows and who know him so at least he won't feel as though he was being abandoned again. I still can't understand how the dog has to be rehomed but the cats get to travel.

He was and has never been abandoned - we took him in when he was a 12 week old puppy - from caring people who wanted homes for their litter of 12 of which he was the only dog.
