BUYING AN ARTMENT IN ALGARVE

HI THIS SUMMERR MY MUM AND FAMILY FRIENDS WENT TO ARMACAO DE PERA IN PORTUGAL AND WE SPENT MOST EVENINGS IN ALBUFEIRA IT WAS BY FAR THE BEST HOLIDAY AND WE LOVE THE PLACE SO MUCH WE A CONSIDERING BUYING A HOLIDAY APARTMENT...TO SPEND ALL SUMMER THERE ASWELL AS TRYING OUT A CHRISTMAS OR NEW YEAR.ALBUFEIRA WOULD BE OUR FIRST CHOICE , MAYBE VILAMOURA.WE'D BE LOOKING FO AN APARTMENT CLOSE TO THE BEACHES AND BARS...SHOPS ETC.IT WOULD BE NICER IF IT WAS IN A COMPLEX MAYBE WITH OTHER BRITISH FAMILIES AND HOLIDAY MAKERS.I WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANY IF YOU HAVE DONE THE SAME THING OR KNOW OF ANY NEW DEVELOPMENTS..

Buying can be a simple process or can be difficult - everyone will suggest things based on their own experience or knowledge particularly regarding individual complexes etc - I think the best thing to do in the short term is trawl around the net for agents listings to get some ideas of whats around at what prices.

Also a great book is Buying a Home In Portugal (David Hampshire) published by Survival Books (Waterstones would get it for you).

Best advice I could give would be take your time and do your research beforehand - the web (and this site) are particularly helpful

Ok thank you..well in many nwspapers there ar ads but we have ooked at many websites on internet and seen some nic epropertie.so when we go on holiday to albufeira againiam sure next year we will look around

Good websites are "nexus.pt" and the various local ISPs (clix.pt, sapo.pt etc) all of these have loads of property agent links and you can find an awful lot in a very short time.

Even for a holiday property I would also suggest to look also a bit inland from the coastal resorts (only a few miles) - costs are lower and there are many advantages

We have just bought a property and would just like to issue a word of warning about agents websites.....they are not up to date, (well the ones we looked at were not and believe me, we looked at absolutely loads),

We booked a whole inspection trip and the properties were not even available. What was available were properties at now inflated prices above our initial budget.

My advice would be take what you see on websites with a big big pinch of salt if you allow say 150,ooo euros for a little appartment be prepared to add at least 30,000 on top or more than the prices advertised, especially on new properties. This may be even more now with further inflation

Appologies if I sound cynical, I am....have been there, done it and got the T shirt.
+ Do not buy a property while you are in holiday mode, through rose tinted spectacles.
Stand back and book a special inspection trip and stay focused on the task in hand.

I hope you find what you are looking for, but if you dont on the first trip dont rush into anything, just for the sake of it. What is the saying someone said to me...buy in haste repent at leisure.

Remember to look at other parts of the Algarve as well, ie Lagos and other areas.

OH OK THANKS WELL WE WOULD BE LOOKIN INTO IT IN GREAT DETAIL.AND ALGARVE IS OUR CHOSEN PLACEAS FOR MANY YEARS WE HAVE LOOKED AT MANY PLACES WHERE BUYING A PROPERTY WOULD BE SUITABLE.BUT YEH WE WOULD MSOT LIKELY CHECK IT OUT AND GET IN CONTACT WITH ESTATE AGENTS.
