I would not call it fast, it really only gets up to " high speeds " north of Lisbon .

Get the Pendula train if you can avoid the so called express this is even slower stopping at most stations between tunes and lisbon.

The pendula train is fast in my view - last time I got it it reached speeds up to 225 km/h between Tunes & Lisbon. There was a speed display on board so you could see.

The main drop in speed is just south of the river as you approach Lisbon.

Very comfortable service but make sure you book a seat. You can do this on-line and at multibanco machines (latter is only if you have Portuguese plastic).

True there is a short distance closer to Lisbon where it doe reach the high speeds but you have to get through the hills and on to the Alentejo plains before it really gets going.

It is a good journey for site seeing ( in daytime ) but less so if on business.
If you book first class you will get your reserved seat, commplimetary drink and headpones ( PT tv and music channels ).

I have done the journey up to Aveiro/Porto and back a few times and at 41/2 hrs plus time does drag.
Now take the plane not that much more expensive sometimes even cheaper.
