loud bangs at 8 am sun morning????

anybody any idea what the loud bangs were at 8an this morning????it sounded like a cannon was being fired,there were approx 10/12 bangs that sent all the dogs in carvoeiro into a barking frenzy !!!!

It is Carvoeiro Day,( the town's Paton saints day,) their is usually an open air church service in the square late afternoon around 6pm and they bless the sea traditionally for the safety of the seaman etc. Not seen a timetable up this year for it though.
Always the last Sunday in August, also the day when the mobs of tourists leave and our lives return to normal

When I walked past the church at the top of the hill yesterday a temporary structure had been set up outside to give shade and wooden pews were being put in place. This is quite a big event in CVO. Also last night of Fatacil so it should be noisy with fireworks tonight.
