with our busy bureaucrats come this interesting statement in relation to the eye clinic in Lagoa

and I quote from the resident article

"According to Álvaro Almeida from the Health Regulatory Agency (ERS), “the clinic is not registered with the ERS. We had no knowledge of the existence of this clinic and, therefore, it is operating illegally."

now I believe its been there for 8 years with a big board outside the shop , nor was the firm in some back street but in a business park, I have also seen advertising for them

They wouldn't know, because they spend most of their time in Carvoeiro checking the bars and restaurants for the numerous different licences and documents that they need.

The authorities would rather try to close down all the businesses in Carvoeiro that provide for tourism etc. and create a great deal in tax revenue for the Camara, than close down an illegal (allegedly) and dangerous business that is in Lagoa

But as with most things in Portugal the authorities are 'too short sighted to see this'

if the ERS are checking bars etc in CVO, is this because they are the PT equivalent of environmental health? i'm sure if they are it is for your (and my) benefit and not just some petty paper pushing process. if it is because they are nothing to do with health (or a different branch of the 'authorities' altogether) then what is the mileage in closing or harrassing, what would be from the Camara's point of view, 'cash cows'? are some of these licences and documents you mention actually important (i.e. are they the source of the Camara's income?)

i ask this as i really do not know what is happening in CVO re these inspections and would really like to know.
